Question about Canon PIXMA MP780 All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

My IP4200 is doing the same thing, not printing any black ink at all on normal print jobs. What's weird is that it does print black in when printing the test pattern in the printer utilities. I have tried the alcohol/q-tip cleaning of the print head but it still will not print black other than in the test pattern. What gives?

Actually I did not use straight alcohol. I used a mixture of about 10 to 1 water/alcohol mixture with one drop of dish liquid. It is a mixture that I learned from Canon a couple of years ago when my IP3000 print head went kaput. I just can't understand why it is only the black with all print jobs other than the test pattern in the print utility? The pattern prints all colors. I don't know anything about a duplex feature, can you shed some light on that?

    Thanks ..... Jeff

Does this give you the problem in all programs? Or just a particular one?Are you using the duplex feature?
Never use alcohol on the print head as it removes the clog then dries to fast so it sets another.Use ammonia at a 20-25% ratio in warm water.

Jeff from either tray you can set the machine to duples(print on both sides of the paper) by going into the driver and choosing properties and then print setup.About 3/4 the way down in thye window you should see duplexing and a check box.

What I do is add another virtual printer in windows and rename it duplex IP4200 and save the profile NOT making it my default but i can choose it in my programs.

Make sure that the paper you srt it for is available to print on both sides.

Plain paper ,photo paper double sided and 5X7 photo paper but not 4x6.

On your test pattern you are getting all five colors on the printout?

You should see a PGBK with a grid pattern then 2 of each other color except the very bottom BK.

If you do not have the PGBK grid that nozzle is clogged.

Try the ammonia trick and dry everything off completely.

Run a nozzle pattern and let me know.

Installed new ink on ip4200. Black will not print on test page "horizontal box", other colors print. Any suggestion on why the black won't print? Thanks.

The ink tank requires air to flow through it so ink can move from the reservoir to the print heads.
  1. Confirm there is no orange tape across the top of the ink tank

  2. If the orange tape is as shown in Figure (A), it is properly removed.

  3. If the orange tape is as shown in Figure (B), remove the remaining tape to the level shown in Figure (A).

  4. Make sure each ink tank is snapped into the printer.

I have a ip4200 and when printing in black it is faded and stripe

The print head is clogged.Make sure black ink cartridge have ink and then try unclogging with cleaning tests in maintenance mode.If not help try unclogging manually.Open the cover and first remove the ink cartridges. Then open the holder and remove the print head.Run hot tap
water and put the print head with the nozzles up to stream water.Hold that 5 mins then turn the print head around with the nozzles down.Hold that for every color of 5 mins. Then put the print head in hot water with the nozzles down.Left it water about 15 mins and then you must very nice to dry. When the print head dry put it in printer and start cleaning. If
this not help you need to replace the print head.

Printer always uses large black & runs out, cant isolate other

The BK5 is for black text only. The other black ink is used for shades of black/gray together with the three basic colors in printing color photos. You cannot use it to print black text.

Pixma ip4200 willl not print Cyan

I think the problm lies between the ink tank and the printhead. When this passage runs dry, sometimes it takes time for the ink to fill this passage again. Try printing again after a day or two.

Look for ink clogged on the printer head. Run cleaning or deep cleaning after installing the new cartridge before printing. Take nozzle check print.
