Question about Akai PT5598HD 55" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

No Picture my akai hd 55in sounds as if it wants to come on but the screen never shows a picture and the red light just flashes. It happened from one day to the next. what are my options to solving this problem

Hear say has it that Toshiba who made alot of the internal parts for this model can offer more help than Akai.
As for the other problems... first Id try leaving the TV unplugged for a day or so. This is a great TV, picked mine up for 400 from my boss who baught it a few years back for 1400 from Sams Club. If I hear a solution I'll be sure to come back here and post it.

Projection TV sets have several common problems listed below.

Problem #1) Convergence


  • Screen Looks 3-D
  • Colors wont align
  • Screen may look distorted
  • No Audio/Video - makes a chirping sound.

How many times Red Lamp flashes, its important as it shows problem and its location in tv. Below is detail of lamp blinks and you may know the problem area in tv by counting lamp flashes.

Need further help, let me know.

I have a red and blue shadow in my picture

i think you need a new convergence board they rin from about 88.00 to about 140.00

Usually, if the red light is flashing and you get no picture, that means that the lamp life cycle is finished and you'll have to get a replacment lamp. the lamp has about 3000 hours of life (2 to 3 years under nomal use).

Screen went blurry 20 minutes later no picture no sound just red flashing light on front

These sets had bad welds in the gun assemblies of the picture tubes. Now, one of the tubes has failed (shorted) and the cost would be too high to replace all three.

Sony tv repair

I own a Sony T.V. model #KV36HS510, Serial # 9024184,Event# E36002407 and it"s aTrinitron brand name. Like the problems before no picture or sound, stand by light on front of unit flashes. When trying to turn it back on you can hear the power click, like it wants to turn on, but does not.
