year/ model etc? if your ign module is in the "cone" probably showing a bad internal connection when it warms up; very common; to test you can run it in garage and heat up cone w/ heat gun / hair dryer for a few minutes if it dies; replace module; make sure a fan is on the engine though; you don't want to cook the motor; just the module

When to adjust idle

If you can keep the bike running long enough to get it warm with and with no choke then that is when you should adjust the mixture,
First though start by adjusting it cold so the screw is set at about 1.5-2 turns out then run till warm set idle at around 1500 revs and adjust until it just starts to lift the revs then back off a quarter turn

So i've recently run into a problem where the bike

If it was a two cycle I'd say it was clogged exhaust ports. But you have a pretty exotic bike. So I guess it's a timing issue dealing with the exhaust Ox sensors.

Car stalls after warm up, wont idle, surges from idle to highway speeds

Without knowing what car it is ...make. model and year this is a very vague question. A quick and dirty educated guess sounds like your timing has jumped ... if it's a timing belt, open the cover and check the timing marks ... or if it runs put on a timing light and look where the timing is ... sounds like it's firing after top dead center.

Bought the Bike Used from a HD Dealer 2004 XL1200C Sportster. 2400 Miles 2nd time I took the Bike for a ride It was Slamming into Gears Very Loudly, Had the Clutch adjusted and Gasket Replaced, Next Time...

check for the pinched vacuum line at the carb,, sportys are hard to locate because they are tucked in way behind , it ay have come disconnected, unless there is a load on the motor it will idle fine, add a little load and you get the feeling no fuel is getting through unless you rev it up

Starts but takes a very long time to warm up. continually stalls when throttle applied. have to keep feathering throttle to keep running . spits ,sputters , backfires until fully warmed up

ColdI engines require a richer mixture to operate smoothly...so they have an enricher (aka choke).
If you are finding you need to keep the choke on longer.....you may have a lean mixture than normal.nother
Start by inspecting the carb and intake manifolds for any leaks (loose fittings....cracked hoses) that could be drawing in air, leaning the mixture.

Another common issue with bikes that have sat over winter...is plugged idle jets.....the fuel varnishes the tiny orifices in the carb. You could try a product like Seafoam in the fuel tank....run it abit to get the treated fuel in the carbs then let it sit overnight...allowing time for the chemical to work. Since the bike runs fine warm...this may clear things up for you.

93 1200 evo, rough idle, stalling, back firing while coming to stops (using the bikes motor to slow down). power knocks when starting from a complete stop

Sounds like a combination of things. First, are you using high octane fuel? If not, try a couple of tank fulls of that. You mentioned "Power Knocks" when starting off from a complete stop. This is typical of detonation due to low quality fuel.

As for the backfiring and stalling. The engine should idle at about 1000 RPM or so. If it's idled lower thant this, stalling is a possiblity not to mention poor oil of the bottom end. The backfiring could be caused by an air leak into the exhaust system. The mixture in your exhaust system should be overly rich for combustion when you backing down using the engine. If the system is sucking air in at a joint sometwhere, it leans the mixture into a combustable mixture and it ignites causing the back fire. If you've removed the "anti-tamper plug" giving you access to the idle mixture screw, back it out about a half turn and see if that helps.

Good Luck
Steve

Car not idling adn stalling when it is cold

sounds like the idle control vale is sticking when it is cold. It is located on the throttlebody right at the air inlet
