The receiver will not turn on and there is an audible relay clicking on and off.

The fuse from the power supply is fine, and there is 120VRMS reaching the main power supply board. The relay (Tyco SDT-S-106LMR) will click on and then off immediately whenever I hit the power button. Any suggestions on next steps?

I finally figured this out after searching everywhere online and seeing people in similar situations but no solutions. I was getting 2 audible relay clicks but no power to the surround sound unit. After some experimenting this is what worked for me:

Remove all wires to the unit including the ac power cord, plug in all the cables you need THEN the power cable after. In my case I had a Panasonic sa-pt770, I plugged in the speakers to the respective colors, then my HDMI, then the power cable.

You have a problem with the power supply or audio amp section. Most likely shorted audio output transistors.

So you're saying ac doesn't get very far into the unit. THAT should be easy to diagnose with CARE since ac is usually passed unmodified to the fuses and power supplies, maybe through a relay. Get a digital voltmeter and find out where it disappears after getting into the unit.

Listen for a relay clicking inside. It you hear it but get no power, it is a problem with the relay. If there is no click, it is probably the power supply.

Yamaha RXV-730 6.1 Channel A/V Receiver

the clicking may have been coming from the relay itself, but it doesn't simply mean that the relay is faulty. clicking may also be caused by transformers, indicating that some electronic components have developed SHORT CIRCUIT. try measuring resistance of transistors and diodes near the power unit (unplug/turn the unit OFF of course) check also for the impedance of the output power transformers.
check the amplifier IC for short also.

Str-de685 WHEN I POWERED I HEARD A CLICK BUT EVERYTHING OFF NO LIGHT.I CHECK BOTH FUSES AND ARE OK.

There is a relay on the power supply circuit board that might be faulty or has bad solder connections. If this relay does not work, power is not applied and everything is "dead". I had to re-solder the speaker relays on my STR-DE675 because they had cracked solder joints which made them work intermittently. It's possible that the power relay is what is causing your problems. If it has bad solder joints it might click, but power might not be able to pass trough the joints.

Does it still click when you turn it on or did it only do this once?

I have the same problem. The fuse blows every time I plug the Sony STR-DE135 into the wall. I did not find the F901 at Radio Shack, so I bought a fast acting 5 Amp 125V Fuse at the Hardware store. It blew...

There is usually one or two normal clicks on power-up. A self-protection relay activates after a short delay for circuit and power stabilization plus some internal cheking for shorts and thermal issues.

If it keeps blowing fuses you are stressing it a bit more every time you feed it another one. I'd get it in to a Pro for repair.

I have a pioneer elite vsx 36tx receiver that quit working. When I turn it on it just hums. It seems like a power supply but not sure.

I have the same receiver.

Do you mean there is an audible hum from the unit, or that speaker output(s) hum?

Let's figure out what DOES work...

Do you get the audible relay click a few seconds after power up?

Does it tune FM?

Can you get the On Screen Display? Settings all ok?

What preceded this? RSVP.

Starting problem, have found that no power getting to glow plugs

next step would be to check glow plug relay (large electrical cables connected to this relay)verify this relay is getting power on smell wire when key switch is turned on,you have to check quick because this is a 15 second or so cylce,if theres keyd power at this relay and no audible click is heard, replace this relay,if no keyd power present at this relay,go back to fuse panel and check fuses, possibly ign relay, check owners manual for location
