Check the NUM LOCK and CAP LOCK Keys, if they are flashing count how many times they are consecutively flashing. HP has Diag Codes on their site. Chances are, the ribbon cables aren't seated correctly.

Toshiba Satellite L455-S5000 monitor blackout but works w an external monitor

This is a tricky situation, any fluid that ends up inside can cause a cascade effect, hours, days, weeks and even months before the full efects are known. You could end up changing the screen and down the road face major failure in the motherboard. Under the circumstances I would consider a laptop replacement.

Laptop monitor blacks out but works fine with an external monitor

If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LEDflashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faultyinverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Please click on this link and follow myinstructions to identify the fault and possible fix :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3598095-faulty_laptop_lcd_screen

Have replaced the battery on a nissan almera tino and now it won't start. It turns over OK but will not fire.

I changed the battery as it was struggling to start over a few days and then died completely after being left over a weekend. After the replacement all electrics worked but the engine wouldn't turn over, it just clicked. There was no immobiliser warning or messages on the screen. I tried a few of the things on this forum but it turned out to be a broken battery earth cable where it attaches to the gearbox under the car. I removed the cable (easier with the battery tray removed) then had a new lug attached to the end. Total cost 1.50. phew!

If you can get a replacement screen (ebay from a broken camera with working LCD screen?), it's not too hard:
