Can NOT copy aN original DVD made from Sony Camcorder DCR-TRV27
I have a Sony Camcorder DCR-TRV27 with many tapes made of various family functions. I can download the tape to a Sony DVD recorder and make an original DVD. However when I try to copy the original DVD on my computer using either ROXIO or NERO, an error message is generated similiar to trying to copy a copy-righted DVD.
I do NOT have this problem when I use a different Camcorder, the problem is only with the Sony Camcorder DCR-TRV27.
I have downloaded from the Sony Camcorder to the DVD recorder using all the different methods available from the Camcorder (firewire, s-video, etc.) all with the same results.

This is one of the most common problems on sony camcorders. It is caused by the loosening or loss of the rubber roller inside the tape drive mechanism. Try tapping the top of the cam when the tape is inside. If this doesnt work, open the tape deck and look inside to see if you can spot a single rubber roller inside. If not, then the roller has worked itself loose or gone AWOL missing..:(( However, fear not...the solution for this is to go to an office supply store and obtain one of those compressed air cans used for dusting off keyboards and such. Amazingly, the plastic tip on the compressed air can (where the air comes out) can be used as a replacement for this rubber roller. It fits the metal spindle that formerly held the roller perfectly and allows the cam to function without the rubber roller and without the dreaded C31:23 "your camera is dead and useless and will no longer function" evil Sony message... In 1990s Sony camcorder records movie in analog format so playing in digital camcorder like DCR-TRV730 doesn't mean it will be converted in digital format and you can not import file in PC for editing purpose. You will get analog signal while playing back old cassettes.
Regarding SP, LP speed, its decided at time of recording. Camera sens SP or LP automatically in playback and set itself accordingly.
If you want to convert old cassettes into digital format, connect our camcorder to DVD recorder and burn DVD which is digital format, copy DVD files in to PC and do desired editing.
i have (or probably had) the same problem. Try this - there is a small reset button on the left side panel of the camcorder. While the set is on VCR model press this and keep pressed for 30 seconds or so. The corrected image should return and probably the problem would go away. I tried this by chance and the problem doesn't seem to recur.
I have another problem though:
In my Sony DCR-TRV27 - A part of the left side console buttons do not work - the tape controls (REW, FF, STOP, PAUSE, PLAY) work alright. The Memory Stick controls seem to work alright. But, pressing the Menu button does not bring any menu display on the screen. Similarly, the scrolling wheel on the front seems not working.
A couple of years back the moisture went inside (I went to Niagara falls!). For few weeks whole of the panel wasn't working but now most of it works. But I cannot get the Menu option work.
I would be glad to hear if you have any other suggestions / advises.
thanks for your time,
