Installation problems After installing the software IAW the setup guide the diagnostics say that with the SCANNER there is no communication ALL other devices OK ie printer/copier and fax? Tried reinstalling, and repairing the software suite as per the setup guide, still the scanner isnt recognised. Had Brother on the phone talking me through downloading drivers and trying to install them but when I look at the scanners and cameras, after the drivers have been seemingly being installed, in the control panel the scanner isnt there.........in fact there is nothing? very frustrating. I have installed the machine without ANY problems on my laptop and everything works? Something is stipping the scanner being recognised on my desktop....what? I have turned off the Windows firewall so its not that?.......................HELP!!

I would assume this is the software on the CD and not a downloaded version which may or may not be the same.
It also says:
Note: Please "scanner" any prior version before installing this version.
I think I would start over and try again. Check that all versions, either working or not, are removed via 'Programs & Features' then try the installation of the CD again.
Insert the software CD in the drive then close any Autoplay window if it appears.
Now go to Computer, and right click the CD/DVD drive > Explore.
If you see a Setup or Setup.exe or similar, D/click to try and install the software.

The installation for Canon scanner its very easy. Please put the software CD in your PC Rom, and start the setup, select the language, and select the complete installation and wait when your setup is not finish.

This error can be caused by many different issues. Try the following resolutions in order until your issue is fixed-

1. You should disconnect and reconnect the USB cable at both ends to ensure there is a secure connection on the device side as well as the computer side. It may also be necessary to try a different USB port on the computer. Additionally, you may need to disconnect other USB devices, temporarily, in order to determine if a conflict exists.

2. unistall and re-install drivers-
1. Place the CanoScan Setup CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.
2. When the CanoScan Setup Utility menu appears, click the option to 'Uninstall the Software' and then follow the prompts.

3. Disable Third-party Software
Software applications that are active during installation can cause errors, installation difficulties and even abort the installation.*1 Close all running applications, including anti-virus programs, before installing Canon Software. You can also prevent these applications from starting through 'System Configuration Utility' (also referred to as 'msconfig') in Windows 98/Me, Windows XP and Windows Vista.

If your computer is part of an office network: Network permissions, security software, etc. may be interfering with proper communication. Please contact your System or Network Administrator before attempting to disable software on your system.

a. See your applications' documentation for instructions on how to close it.

b. If you are unable to locate the documentation or the application appears to be running after it is closed, disable the startup items in the Windows 'System Configuration Utility'.

c. If disabling startup items in 'msconfig' does not correct the issue, disable non-Microsoft related services in 'Services' tab of 'System Configuration Utility' window.

d. Attempt to install the Canon software (drivers). If the drivers were already installed, uninstall them (keep the third-party software disabled) and then reinstall the drivers.

e. After installation is complete, set 'msconfig' back to 'Normal Startup'.

After uninstallin you need to reboot the computer and install as per procedure. this should help.

Uninstal all the software for the scanner. Install the correct ISIS?TWAIN Drivers from the following link. http://software.canon-europe.com/products/0010336.asp. Install CapturePerfect. 
(Incase you did not know, the ISIS/TWAIN Driver is to connect the Computer to the scanner and CapturePerfect is purely 'Scanning Software', just to facilitate easy scanning.)
