Question about Tomtom GO 910 GPS Receiver

1 Answer

Yesterday, when driving, I noticed that the device said i was receiving no signal, even though I was out on the interstate... I got frustrated and turned it off... I figured that it would give it ample time to charge ... Now this morning, while i received the normal signal, the battery light keeps flashing, even though it is plugged in and the light on the charger is green signifying power... Should I reset the device or will something else solve this issue...

The green light does not necessarily mean there is power to the unit or charging the battery. If the unit is more than 3-5 years old, you may have success with replacing the battery. If you have a power source with sufficient current output capabilities then you could try that with the battery removed.

Your receiver may be detecting random signals from some other source. Infrared is pretty much line of sight but RF can come from anywhere.

I have a Dodge Neon 2006 which was working fine

you may be right, try a spare key, that will elimanate the key chip, you will need a scan tool to diagnose this problem, also with key in crank position is there power at starter, the scan tool can tell yuo if computer is reading key chip signal and if signal if right and also you can see if starter is receiving start signal, good luck.

When I start off the bpm goes up above normal then levels out after approximately 300 yds

This is basically the forerunners way of callibrating itself. It picks up the heart rate signal from the chest strap, sets itself high and then drops down until it matches the signal coming from the transmitter. This seems to be a feature in all the forerunner series though the Garmin reps I asked about it( I work in an outdoor store) weren't even aware of it and didn't seem too concerned even though staff who tested it had said it was annoying.

ok if the battery is fully charged then the SIIRF chip is damaged and you now have an expensive repair.
Plugging in when starting the car can damage this chip by spiking. Even though the4 tip is fused just enough spike passes through to damage it
sounds also like maps were damaged or corrupted...
This is not nescessarily a warranty claim if you admit using it when staring up the engine. So take it back to seller and make a claim

Floating in space even on interstate

As I always suggest, your maps might be off if you haven't updated since you bought the device, or haven't updated in quite some time. Run the device through TomTom Home to update your maps, and it should provide the fix

Keyboard beeps and doesn't work

I had the same problem and it didn't seem to have a logical explanation for it.
I returned it to where I bought it (Staples, in Canada) and they exchanged it yesterday even though I had bought it on Boxing Day.
