XPS 1330 screen turns black

Hi,

I work on an XPS 1330. Since yesterday, it blocks every now and then; the mouse pad stops working, then the screen turns black and I have to remove the battery to stop the computer (as I don't know any other way). When I restart, I see all these colored vertical lines, but I can work on it again...until the next crash. Any idea?
Many thanx

Jeroen

When I say block, I mean the mouse stops working, can't ctrl+alt+del, then scren turns black, can't do anything but I hear the computer still works (I can hear the fans) It doesn't necessarily happen after a while, I've had it after a few minutes too. Now, he seems to work ok, I'm just waiting till it happens again.
I'll try the power button next time.
I don't have another dell here.
    Thanx to both of you

Instead of removing the battery you can hold the power button down for about 5 to 8 seconds. Unfortunately your problem is with the graphics card. Luckily for you the xps laptops have upgradeable graphics cards and it can be replaced. You will want to make sure it is the graphics card first most likely. do you have any other dell xps laptops around? It may also just be that the card is overheating. removing the card and cleaning the cooling fins might fix your problem. Does it seem to do it only after the laptop has been on for a while? What exactly do you mean by it blocks?

    Almost definately video card.
And it will probably cost you around $700.
    Good luck.

You can try it on an external monitor but its not going to help.

My first guess is that your video card is starting to go bad. My second guess is the processor needs to have its heatsink reseated. If it is under warranty I would have dell repair it so you don't incur the charge of a new video card.

I have a dell xps M1330. Its mouse pad is behaving weird. If I try using it, it doesnt work but if I keep holding a shortcut key(play/stop/volume keys) while using the mouse pad it works fine. Any help?

hi,

your mouse pad dose not connect to the ground of device so when you keep and hold any

shortcut of keyboard , this connection done , and mouse pad work.

for this you (if you can) or a technician must remove the keyboard and change the flat cable

between mouse pad and devise .

good luck

Since yesterday, my xps m 1330 is not working properly....i press the power button, it starts, it gets tothe loading of the OS(vista, by the way), then, suddenly it turns black, even the light shuts down,...

it sounds like a clash between drivers. If what you describe is accurate, than there may be a problem with the driver of the screen. It can be caused by other drivers as well. However, what you described sounds like the display driver.

Did you install anything during the last days? maybe even the OS update can cause this. Try to boot to safe-mode, in most computers you can boot using the F8 or F12, depends on the manufacturer (I think Dell's F8, not sure). If the OS is uploading as usual (it won't look like the normal OS, but it's okay, don't worry) then you should check the drivers (right click on "My Computer" should get you there).

Please inform me of any developments or questions you may have

No response when i turn xps on.

the monitor may have been toggled off.... usually this is a function key and another key at the same time. examine the keys for one that looks like a monitor unless you have the manual... it will tell you there how to change it.

I have a dell xps 1330 and the touch pad stopped working abruptly. Now there is an icon that looks like a note pad and pen to the center left of the display. What did I do, and how can I get the touchpad...

had a similar problem on a laptop i was working on - the touchpad quit immediately after an update.

try using an external USB mouse and then reinstall the driver for it - that's what fixed it for me.

Philips PA1039 Wireless mouse and Dell XPS laptop

Normal 0 Try disconnecting the Mouse Receiver from the USB port and reinstall the CD software program. When the program asks you to connect the Mouse Receiver to the USB port, do so and it should work.
Hope this helps. Bud

Dell XPS 1330 touchpad scroll areas quit working

Hi Patrick,
The most likely problem is that the ribbon cable from the touch pad is not making proper connection with the motherboard.
I would recommend you get this repaired under warranty, there is a bit of work involved in pulling the laptop apart to get to this cable & connector and if you do something wrong it could void your warranty.

I can give you instructions if you wish to try and fix it yourself.
Let me know.

DELL xps touchpad

Sounds like a driver glitch, from the device manager, try uninstalling it, then do a hardware search, it will locate it and reinstall the drivers automatically. If this doesn't solve the issue, then the touch pad has failed and needs replacing.
