Do you want to go on-line via wireless or by a Ethernet cable or dial-up?

Hi..
Make sure the security settings are correct (e.g. WPA).

Also make sure the router has your MAC code if MAC filtering is being used..

This is assuming you have wireless internet existing where your desktop is.

Buy a wireless network device for your desktop. This can either be a network interface card which needs to be installed inside the desktop or a USB device. Both will contain software on how to auto detect wireless networks within the desktop vicinity. If not, Windows XP has wireless network setup found in Control Panel...

    thank u

ur problem right now is ur router is not working for ur lap top but for ur pc it works.. is it correct????

    hi..

The wireless router and wireless card in your laptop probably have different settings. To get to the configuration page in the router the default URL is 192.168.1.1. While connected via the Ethernet cable open your browser and type that in and then hit enter. If you get prompted for a password you should know it or try the default password which is admin with the user name blank. Once you get into the setup utility you can view the settings of the wireless by clicking on the Wireless tab. Write down the settings and configure your laptop so it matches. One suggestion, if it is not set up configure wireless security and use WPA, not WEP. You'll be prompted to enter a passkey, make one up and you'll have to enter it in both the router and the laptop wireless connection's properties..

    this wil solve ur probelm

Well your setting is confusing to start off with.

This is how you should have it setup.

    ISP<------->Modem<------>Wireless Router

The DSL modem should be the only device connecting to the phone line, and that modem should have an RJ45 port to connect to the WAN port on the wireless router. Then 1 PC connect wired to the router and the laptop should have a wireless adapter to connect to the wireless router.

My screen turns black after a few minitues, samsung r505

screen Inverter is going out.

Primer first if I may;

An LCD screen cannot produce light,

http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/NA_Optical/Systems/BehindTheScenes/Optics101/

(Click on the monitor icon)

It needs an additional light source. A Backlight is the additional light source.

A Backlight can be a CCFL, (Or more than one), or a series of LED's
(Light Emitting Diode)

http://www.screentekinc.com/Samsung_R_Series_NP-R505--15.4-inch--1280x800-wxga-laptop-lcd-screen.shtml

The Samsung R505 series uses a single (1) CCFL,

http://www.screentekinc.com/Samsung_R_Series_NP-R505--15.4-inch--1280x800-wxga-laptop-lcd-screen.shtml

A CCFL is a Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp. (Bulb)
Similar to Fluorescent lighting used in homes and businesses, but on a MUCH smaller scale.

Average thickness is 2mm. That is a little larger than 1/16th of an Inch, or about the width of this capital letter -> O <-

Average length is almost as long, as the LCD screen is in height.
View the last 8 photos,

http://www.laptoprepair101.com/laptop/2007/12/09/replace-laptop-backlight-ccfl-lamp/

A screen Inverter is used to convert the power (Electricity), from the laptop; for the LCD screen and Backlight.
90 PERCENT OF THE TIME the fault can be attributed to a bad screen Inverter.

Click on photo to enlarge. Both top and bottom view are shown.

http://www.laptop-inverters.com/lcd-inverter.php/sony_inverter.htm

Primer over.

The plastic frame in front of the LCD screen is the Display Bezel.

The screen Inverter is located behind the Display Bezel, and mounted to the bottom of the Screen Frame.
The metal picture looking frame, which surrounds the LCD screen layers.
(3M link shows you an LCD screen is made up of layers)

A) Remove ALL power. Remove the AC adapter (Charger), and Battery.

B) Open the laptop.

There are 4 Screw Covers going across the Top, of the Display Bezel.
Two on each side of the Webcam.

There are 2 Screw Covers across the Bottom.
One in each corner.

These are gently pried off. I use a computer pick. I do not use a metal blade such as a box cutter, but leave it up to you.

The Screw Covers are made of synthetic rubber, or plastic.
They are held in place by a type of rubber cement.
I lift up at the bottom of the Screw Cover, where the base of it meets the Display Bezel. (Push in a little, lift up)

If you are careful you should be able to reuse them. If one doesn't stick anymore, apply a TINY dab of rubber cement with a toothpick tip.
I LIGHTLY stick them to the Display Bezel for safekeeping.

{Yes. They like to stick to the tool, your fingers, and passing airplanes(?)
Oh? You think I'm kidding? Sure. Just wait until you're taking one off, and a passing jet goes overhead } (lol!)

Remove the Philips head screws. (6)
No.1 Philips screwdriver, or equivalent Jewelers screwsdriver.

The Display Bezel has TABS going around the exterior perimeter, on the inside.
These Tabs snap into matching LATCHES on the Display Cover.
(Top cover with the laptop closed)

A) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjXLR5yY7X4

Just a basic guide, posted for the Display Bezel removal technique.
I would lay the Display Assembly back to an angle.

Then cut a thick piece of heavy construction paper, or equivalent; to just fit the inside edges of the Display Bezel.
This will help protect the LCD screen from your fingernails, when removing the bezel.

I would also start at the top right, or top left. Move towards either side, then go down side.
Use care as the sides are thinner. Also watch it on the bottom, because the Display Bezel may hang up on the Hinge Covers, when coming off.

It's made of space-age plastic, and is pretty tough stuff; but can be broken.

Once the Display Bezel has been removed, remove the single screw that holds the screen Inverter in place, bring screen Inverter out, and unplug cables. One coming in, one going out.

The connectors are different from each other on those cables, and only plug in one way.

Screen Inverter replaced, cables back in their Channels and Latches, snap the Display Bezel back in place, install screws, and Screw Covers.

joecoolvette

I was downloading windows automatic update and it updated to 83% and now if stuck there I have windows vista basic on a acer laptop anyone know how to fix this thank you

Please start the Computer and keep tapping the F8 key to access the Windows Advanced options.
Select Safemode.
Once you are in Safemode, follow the below procedure:

  1. Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.

Note On a Windows Vista-based computer, click Start, type services.msc in the Start Search box, right-click services.msc, and then click Run as administrator.
  2. In the Services (Local) pane, right-click Automatic Updates, and then click Stop.
  3. Minimize the Services (local) window.
  4. Select all the contents of the Windows distribution folder, and then delete them.

Note By default, the Windows distribution folder is located in the drive:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder. In this location, drive is a placeholder for the drive where Windows is installed.
  5. Make sure that the Windows distribution folder is empty, and then maximize the Services (local) window.
  6. In the Services (Local) pane, right-click Automatic Updates, and then click Start.
  7. Restart the computer, and then run Windows Update again.
  8. That should resolve the issue.

Return it and ask for refund or exchange since they won't repair it. Otherwise you can try and purchase a screen and install it Or just return and buy a different one.
