Question about Watches

1 Answer

I have the FOSSIL GRIMM fs-4154 250611. I have managed to get the back off and lose the battery. But before that a jeweler had tried to fix it and said it was damaged. When I brought it in, however, it was working but dim. I suggested he should ''reset'' the battery but he said he couldn't do it (because it was plastic!). I notice on the back there is an etched image and I think it is directions how to reset but it is too small to discern. So two questions: 1. What battery does it use? 2. How do I ''reset'' it when I install a new battery? Thanks PS. I guess I'd also like to know how to reseal the back so it is as watertight as possible. Any suggestions? Should I use some sort of silicone? What type would that be?.

I changed the battery in my Fossil Grimm FS-4154 just yesterday. It takes a CR2016 coin cell. There is no need to reset the watch as long as the battery is installed in one fluid motion: if all the LCD segments turn on (88:88), just press the MODE button and the watch will reset. If it shows random junk instead, remove the battery and try again. The hardest part was getting the back plate back on; that required 2 vise-grips locking pliers, a pair of regular pliers, and a disturbing amount of force.

Testimonial: "I changed mine also after the jeweler told me it couldn't be done. It is true you have to start over if it fails but once it works it is fine. Thanks!"

Just take the watch to your nearest jeweler. They can quickly replace it for you....probably cheaper than what you would pay for the battery yourself.

Fossil fs-4167. the small fake diamond in it is stuck on sec hand

You have to open your watch, take out stem completely, then take out whole movement and release the stone. I you have steady hands, nimble fingers and a pair of tweezers, you will be able to refit the stone using Superglue.

On most watches, if you get condensation within the face, means that there is a small crack on the glass/plastic covering. Some watches you can take apart from the back and pull out the workings and replace this casing, on others, you have to take it to the jewelers to have it replaced. Depending on how much you paid for the watch, you are better off buying a whole new one.
