Screen goes blank

When I open my flip phone the main menu is on screen for about 5 seconds - then goes blank. I can't call out but I still get incoming calls - battery is full - was not dropped or damaged

My lg vx8700 has only been used for a month and the screen goes blank on it about 7-15 seconds after I flip it open.

Hello,

The problem is from the flex that connects your screen to the phone's main board. This flex must have worn out that's why your screen is not displaying any picture.
This is a common problem with flip and slide phones. The flex gets worn out as a result of constant opening and close of the flip or slide phone.
I will suggest you replace the flex on the screen of your phone to solve the problem.
If you cannot change the flex yourself, you can take the phone to a local repairer within your vicinity, so that the flex can be fixed or replaced.

Take care.

Purchased in sept 2009 and screen went blank in oct 09.they replaced it and now its doing the same thing

Hello,

can you still receive calls even when the screen is blank?

I don't think the screen is the problem of your phone, but a flex problem. This blank screen issue is a common problem with slide and flip phones.

This occurs as a result of constant opening and close of flip or slide phones which makes the flex to worn out.

The flex is the one that connects the screen to the phone main board, and once this flex is weak/worn out or loose contact, there won't be any display on the screen.

Therefore check the phone flex and not the screen. Screen doesn't just get spoilt, except it hits the ground or something.

Take care.

Screen goes blank when opening

Hi,

Sometimes this problem happens when the wire for the screen get detached from the phone, or if the screen itself has a problem. It is common for flip phones to have this problem. To fix this problem, you need to take it to a repair center and have them reattach the wire onto the main board, which should not be very expensive.

Screen gets distorted and turns white

Hi,

The part that is bad is the Ribbon flex cable that geos from the main board to the LCD board. Over time the cable becomes chaffed and will lose continuity between the traces. It can be fixed with

Tessco Part #: GH97-07715A

It does need to be soldered on the LCD side.

Hi,thanks for that. I tried that one, but it didn't work. It still had the same problem. I've now sent it out for repairs. Found it was still under warranty anyway. Thank you very much.

Motorola KRZR black screen

This URL explains that the blank screen is caused by a loose cable, includes instructions, and includes another URL that shows how to take the phone apart and re-seat the cable: http://www.howardforums.com/archive/topic/963501-1.html

I just fixed mine. The cable goes from the back of the phone (below the battery and SIM card) around the hinge and connects again on the flip-up part, under the screen. Re-seating at the main unit didn't fix it for me (dang), so I had to take off the cover on the flip-up part. Pretty hairy, but doable. You'll need TORX #5 and #6 screwdrivers.

I also saw where local repair shops will fix it for $75 (ouch), but that may be for a screen replacement--which is probably not needed. Opening and closing the phone is what causes the (tiny, flat) cable to need re-seating.
