Question about Xerox WorkCentre M128 Copier

I have a problem 016-782 with a Phaser 6180MFP-D. I've tried all solutions possible, nad the result is always the same: can't network scan to some computers and to another ones I can! Could I get any help form you?

There is an error in the in the server password or a template setting.
Here is the documentation. Pretty straight forward

Login to the Server was not possible during Scan to Server file transfer.
arrwup.gifInitial Action Refer to BSD 16.1.
Power OFF/ON
arrwup.gif Procedure Set the login name and password in the destination server.
Set the attributes of the Job Template file correctly.
From a client PC, set the same account as the above as a resource using CW.

SOURCE: Xerox Phaser 6180MFP i have replaced toners

Supposedly the 6180MFP allows the user to select a non-genuine mode (select "Non-Xerox Toner" on the maintenance menu). This option is listed on page 9-18 of the User Guide, and I think it's the same as the Non-Genuine mode described on page 1-38 of the Service Manual. However, when I actually look for this option on my printer it doesn't appear to be present. Maybe Xerox removed it and didn't update the documentation? Anyone else know about this setting?

Hi, the error code you mention suggests you are able to print a start page but still the error is constantly displayed on the device.
This error is related to a failure on the Fax module, originated by a possible corrupted job on the device memory.
3 Ways to solve this.

  1. Unplug the device from the power cord and leave it for around 10 minutes. Then plug the power cord back on. This will allow the memory to clean.
  2. Clean the memory. Before you do that print a configuration report to ensure you keep all configuration data, such as network information. On the front panel navigate to System > Admin Menu >Maintenance > Initialize NVM. Be aware this procedure might erase your network configuration. therefore is important to print the configuration report previously
  3. The same steps taken in Step2 will be required but done on a Diagnostic menu. For this I would advise you to contact Xerox to get an onsite visit.

Everything depends on how you have it set up through the web interface of the Xerox. If you're using the SMB protocol for network scanning be sure that the folder you are trying to scan to is shared and that the user that you have set the xerox machine to use has LOCAL read and write access to that folder. Occasionally i've seen a firewall issue, but it's rare. All of this assuming that the OS on the PC your scanning to is running XP,Vista, or Server 2003. If you're running Windows 7 or Server 08, forget about it and switch to a FTP protocol and install Filezilla or add IIS through the add windows components and set up an FTP site. With either SMB or FTP, be certain that the username has read/write/delete access to the folder you are trying to write to (domain username will not do with this model). I hope this helps.

Will not print in color


You can find answers to your Xerox questions at www.xerox.com/support

If the machine will copy in color it should print in color.
After verifying that it will copy in color, verify your driver is capable of being switched from black and white to color. If there are no color settings then you have the wrong driver. The link above will take you to the support page where you can download new drivers.

If your Xerox Phaser 6180, 6180mfp, 6280, or 6280mfp is displaying "Replace Transfer Unit" or "Ready transfer Unit Life" you most likely need to replace the transfer unit.
For the 6180 and 6180mfp the part number is 675K47088. For the 6280 and 6280mfp the part number is 675K70583.Here is a video that shows you how to replace this part. It is very easy and requires no tools.

There are a couple of possibilities here.

Is the printer on a 'page pack' contract ?


Are the toners really chipped for the printer you have ?
There are 8 printers (including the multifunction variants as yours is) that take a SIMILAR cartridge.

They vary in capacity and chip. Some remanufacturers don't realise and have been sening out cartidges for these with the wrong chip fitted.

There has also been a bad batch of chips (a while ago now).

The solution is quuite simple, contact your supplier tell them what the problem is (error message etc) and they should be able to check the cartridge in their test printer (a GOOD remanufacturer will have a test printer for each of the cartridges they produce - how could they test their product otherwise !!).
