Question about Dometic Rooftop RV Air Conditioner

1 Answer

The unit cycles every minute and the fan continues to run.

I have a 2002 Cardinal with a single unit which is a model # 59516.331, ser. # 140 30176, 15,000 BTU. The compressor comes on and runs for about 1 minute turns off for about 1 minute and then the compressor turns back on. This is repeated all day and night unless the evening temp. and humidity get cool enough to let the unit cycle as it should. I failed to mention above that during the 1 minute cycles the fan continues to run. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am pretty sure the problem is the thermostat and if so do they sell a digital thermostat for this unit.

You are right the problem is with the thermostat. if this is an all-in-one unit there is a wire that runs from the thermostat to the front of the evaporator coil where the air returns to the system to be cooled. you can try to move the wire further away from the coils and see if it prevents the unit from short-cycling. btw it's not very good for the unit to do what its doing now, as i'm sure you could imagine. if its a separate thermostat i.e. one that runs on 24V and has wires running to the a/c, then just replace it with one from Home Depot and you should be good to go. if it's other than 24V then you will likely have to get a replacement thru the a/c's manufacturer.

Fan won't quit running, even after shutting breaker off to entire unit and powering back up.

There is a thermal sensor usually under the top panel that controls the cooling fan. You can check it for continuity or just pull a wire off and power it up. If the fan stops running then this could be the problem. There also could be a stuck relay on the control board. lets hope it is the thermal sensor.

I have an Everstar portable air conditioner Model MPA-08CR but when it is working for 10 minutes...it is working fine cooling the desired space but the next 10 minutes it is only working like a fan...then...

The problem may be that you don't have the temperature set low enough and the unit reaches the set temperature quickly and then only the fan runs. Try lowering the set temperature.

Thanks for choosing FixYa.

Whirlpool DEHUMIDIFIER Model - AD70USS1 does fan NOT does not cycle off anymore in the low settings as it should

According to the Owner's Manual for your model, the fan will run continually, if the unit is set in continuous mode or if the unit is in defrost mode. Once the unit senses a rise in the humidity level, the compressor will start up again. Also, a dirty or clogged air filter will cause the fan to run more that it should.

Hope this helps you troubleshoot and solve the problem.

Delfield model #mrr2n-s ser. 0403036101321-t ice

can not immediately locate manual.
If this unit is a cooler, check this:

Anything that can effect air flow. Fans not running or running in wrong direction.
Too much product in unit.
Thermostat set too low or stickes and unit does not shut off unit.
Possibly has a defrost timer. Most coolers do not but some do. Look for one and see if it is working. Make a mark on the face and wait 15 minutes to see if it moves.
Drain pan clogged.
Doors not closing or seals not sealing.

these are the things to check out.

Fan stops mid cycle but compressor continues to run on my lg split system. The unit then stops cooling. If you let it set for a few minutes it will reset and run for approx 5 minutes.

Check the fan capacitor, and with the power off to the unit, spin the fan blade to see if it spins freely, if it doesn't then the bearings in the motor are bad,it if does then it's probably the capacitor or if you have a fan switch in the system, then check the switch.

Central Air Conditioner

Turn the power to the indoor unit off. Remove the cover where the fan is. Feel the motor of the fan. If it is very hot the bearings have likely gone out. If the fan is cool to the touch I would call a service company because you likely have an electrical problem that will require some training to solve.

Fan runs for hours after use

The fan is in place to cool the electronics it will run after the unit is off it is possible you have a bad sensor on the fan circuit leaving it to run too long

Motor never turns itself off

If by motor you mean the compressor itself then no, it should not run all the time. The compressor should run until the thermostat senses the temp. is at where you set it then turns off the compressor. A couple of possible things... if the unit has a leak in the refrigerant then it may run almost continuously since it can barely reach the cold setting you have selected. Or the temp. sensor thermostat may be bad and the unit doesn't know to turn off. There is also a defrost cycle that happens about every 12 hours for a few minutes (depending on make/model on how it works) but that should also turn off the compressor and fans until the defrost cycle is completed. Basically it should turn off when the temp. setpoint is reached or when it's in the defrost cycle.
