When you are in the application that you are going to print from. Go to the menu bar, click on File - Page Setup. Here you should be able to change the paper size you wish to print out in. If you want to set the paper size by default to A4, then you will need to (Windows7) click on the Start button - Devices and Printers, select the printer that you want to change the paper size, right click on the printer - Printer Preferences, a dialog box appears, select the paper size you want in the paper size drop down list, click - Apply - OK. This should then have set the paper size to A4 by default.
This is probably a software settings issue, please check in the application that you use for printing if the default paper size is the correct one (A4 on Letter) Also check in Control panel, under printers Properties, that the correct paper size is selected. Try printing again.
If you are in Canada or US then you need to set the default paper size to Letter not A4. Most if not all software you use likely sends the print job in letter format. Because the printer is set in A4 it stops and waits for that size.
just a point of interest have you tried this and have you set the size let it take, turn off for like 12 seconds and turn back on. to me its the same as with windows rebooting after any software change, they may not tell you but i always shut it off then back on to save any kind of setting or program, it may be a wasted step but i do it anyway.
the default paper settings Make sure that the default paper size matches the width and length of the paper loaded in the tray. If the paper loaded in the tray is different from the paper size setting, the printer might print blank pages. For instance, the issue might occur if legal size paper (215 x 355 mm (8.5 x 14 in)) is in the tray, and the paper size setting is letter (215 x 279 mm (8.5 x 11 in)).
Follow these steps to check the default paper settings. Click the Windows icon Click Hardware and Sounds Click Printers Right-click the icon for the product, and then click Properties Click Printing Preferences Click the Features tab. Compare the settings in the Size drop-down menu with the paper in the tray. If the paper in the tray is not the size in the Size drop-down menu, change the setting: a.Click the Size drop-down list, and select more. The Size is window opens. b.Select the size of the paper that is in the tray, and then click ok. c.Click OK in the Printing Preferences window, and then click OK in the Properties window.
Don't set by using the "Print" option.
Go to [Start]
[Printers and Faxes]
right-click on the HP printer entry
! Don't select "Printing Preferences"! from there
Select [Advanced] tab
Select [Printing Defaults]
(I know, the screen looks the same, but it functions differently this way)
Change paper size to "Letter"
[OK, OK, OK]
A lot of users have no idea how to change the MS Office default from US to UK .. so they have US spellings and US paper sizes (known as 'Letter' sized) .. and (of course) any Document that started life in USA keeps it's size until some-one changes it ... since Letter size is almost the same as A4 no-one cares UNTIL they come to print it ...
I'm sure you can guess the rest :-)
Yes, the Printer is looking in it's feed tray for Letter sized paper .. yes, Letter doc's will print just fine on A4 and most printers have a setting somewhere that lets it use A4 when asked for Letter (often called "automatic A4<>Letter convert" or some such)
NB. when time permits, perhaps the unfortunate users can have their MS Office apps. set to UK mode :-)
Need to set A4 size default on the printer driver itself. Go to Printers and Faxes / Konica Minolta 2490MF right click/ Printing preferences / Create a "Easy Set" with a new name. Set all paper sizes to A4. Save the new settings to the new Easy Set. Click apply.
Go through the following
Start=Settings=printers and faxes=right click on the isatalled printer=printing preferences=change paper size from A4 to Letter. This will now remain as default.
Go to printers and faxes and right click and properties on your printer!! Then select Advance, then Printing defaults!! In there select paper size A4 format. And in Word go to File, Page setup and select page size A4!
