Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

TFS22PP - GE side by side - running warm. Freezer not freezing and fridge side not cool. I'm not in the freezer too much but noticed the fridge getting a little warmer. Then I noticed some frozens were a bit soft around the edges 2 days after I had filled it (of course). Following some of the other solutions posted, I checked the back freeze wall - frosty. Pulling the back wall panel off - one big block of ice - top to bottom. Cleared it with a hair dryer and figured to drop in a defrost therm (as mentioned in other threads). My town has no GE parts and would be order only. I also notice that the compressor only seems to kick on for a few seconds. Is that an associated symptom? Is the defrost therm the usual culprit with this model?

relaga58 - I thought the heater was just a continuity check across the element, no?

I'm letting it run a bit and, after checking it just now, it's running cold so I guess the comp is running ok. It sounds/feels like normal cycling now as well.

All the freezer items hit the trash just now so I'm going to check this in the 'morning' to see where I stand. The coils are getting a little frosty.

Thanks for the quick response - I'll check/post back later after it runs in my sleep.

No difference this morning. I did a little more poking around and some more research. Now I know a little more about my unit.

I put it into defrost mode and it shut down properly but no heater glow. Being Tuesday afternoon, I'm ordering the heater kit (WR51x10031) now. I'll throw 40 bucks at it if I can get it by the end of the week.

    I'll post the results.

5 things to look. The timer, fan, thermostat, heater and heater overtemp. Check timer by listening at it, the fan by pressing the switch in front where the door seals, the thermostat by turning anti-clockwise you should hear a click. The heater and heater overtemp need technician to check

I have a ge refridgerator gss25k side by side. thefridge/freezer are not cooling. the bottom of the fridge freezes and the top is warm.

There is an air duct that connects the fridge to the freezer. A fan circulates air to cool the refrigerator.
The inside fan has stopped working or is blocked by ice.
Defrost the freezer. If the fridge starts to work properly then you have an auto defrost problem. If the fridge still does not work then there is a faulty fan.
A technician can help you there

Freezer not freezing

Is the compressor motor running. If no check starter/overload relay.
Check to see if the condenser fan at the back underneath near the compressor is running. If no check fan.

Are the condenser coils near there warm or room temp. should be warm

Is the evaporator fan in the freezer running. It blows cold air into the fridge side through a damper in the wall between the freezer and fridge. Make sure the damper is open.

Below the evaporator fan is the evaporator coils. Remove the back cover in the freezer to observe the frost pattern. Light frost everywhere(NORMAL) or a partial pattern of ice(LOW ON FREON) or nothing(LOW FREON OR COMPRESSOR PROBLEM).

I have a Kenmore Cold Spot fridge, freezer on top. Fridge is warm, and freezer keeps freezing up on sides and bottom. I cleaned it all out, defrosted it, and it still freezes up and fridge still won't get...

Is this a self defrost model? Frost inside the freezer could be an air leak around the door gasket. Remove the back panel in the freezer and completely defrost the coils. Is the fan running in the freezer. That will make the frig not be cool. With the door closed peek in the gasket to make sure the light is shutting off, this will warm a frig also.

Fridge not cooling or freezing

Work on the fridge problem first and the freezer may be fixed by that.

1/Thermostats lose sensitivity over time. The thermostat or sensor may be defective.
or
2/ You have lost some of your refrigerant and it is undercharged. It does evaporate very slowly but a pinhole would lose it in minutes.

Do not continue to run it or your compressor may overheat and fail. The sides of the fridge are probably quite warm from this happening already.
