Keyboard also going haywire - suggestions not working

I have an Inspiron 1545 with the same crazy keyboard issue. In fact, I had to re-type this message 3 times for being re-routed to other sites. I constantlam opening up new tabs, search boxes and random links without doing anything but normal typing. It is a brand new laptop - should I return it?

I tried the control panel and updating the driver software but that did not change anything. My settings are set to Standard for they keyboard as well. Help!!

Keyboard is defective for sure, almost like certain keys are shorted out or on some of the keys the tactiles are depressed and might be stuck. With your laptop turned off. Run your fingers thru all of the keys on the keyboard from left to right from top to bottom and then repeat the same motin from bottom to top. Then go ahead and turn on the laptop and see if it still does it. If it does then go ahead with the laptop off, take out the keybard physically, then reseat it back into its slot and boot up the laptop again, if it does the same thing, then the keyboard is bad and since the laptop is new and should be under warranty (1 year warranty on Dell) then they should be able to replace it under warranty.

My inspiron 1545 types two letters at once

On most laptops there is a function key that will lock the keyboard.

You would need to pres the [Fn] key and the appropriate [F#] key. In mine the combination

would be [Fn+F1] keys. If you shut down to re-activate the keyboard you will loose whatever you are working on.

hope this helps

Not working at all? Did you spill liquid on it? Not working is a very broad statement, tell us exactly what is going on with the keyboard. If it's not working then you need another keyboard. If there are certain keys that work and some that don't then that's another issue.

Replace the keyboard. They're readily available on ebay. Also, try plugging a usb keyboard in & see if it still happens. If it does then forget replacing the keyboard. Instead you'll be needing a motherboard.

Wow! Electronics and Water do not mix. Your Dell Inspiron 1545 keyboard can be removed follow these instructions from Dell:
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins1545/en/SM/keyboard.htm#wp1179891

Then the next step is to get the water dryed out from under side.
As crazy as this may seem I have tried it on many other things like phones, and remotes left out in the rain.
Get a cheesecloth fill it up with rice! Yes RICE! It is one of the best absorbents.

Place it on the under where the keyboard sits overnight and give it a try in the morning.

Why when I am on facebook does my keyboard all of a sudden go whacko! It types letters that are not what I am typing!

The next time it happens, launch notepad and type the alphabet
abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz
The go back to facebook and type the same thing:
If its crazy in notepad, its your compter
If its only crazy in facebook, then its actually facebooks problem with your browser. ( it has happened to me on occasion, I use firefox 2.0.0.20 )

Go to Control Panel --- then System -- then device manager -- under keyboard right click and go to update driver.

If that doesn't work, go into control panel and there should be an Icon for KEYBOARD. Check the "Key settings" and make sure it set to "Standard" and not custom or gaming.

Hope this helps!
