Left click start, left click control panel, left click system icon, left click device manager, on all USB Root items right click and uninstall, each USB item in the list restart the computer the OS should auto detect each one again. No worries don't be alarmed about performing this task its standard troubleshooting for the USB Root Driver. Once all USB line items reappear check your peripherals that are connected to see if the items are working now. If not perhaps flashing the bios could help, visit support.dell.com and enter your tag number for your desktop GX270 and download the latest bios driver follow the instructions carefully for flashing the bios.

Hi, I haven't got a Dell but try this site for the USB driver that is missing. With XP there is no support for USB2, an updated driver is required. Did you download the drivers from Dell? If not, that could be why as they may be old drivers.

I upgraded my usb drivers -- I have windows xp pro -- i think they use all the same -- I used Realtek USB 2.0 card reader drivers. ( http://bit.ly/qeofyZ ) plugged it in (NOT in the front, but the back)_ & it recognized it after going to start, computer as "walkman" -- did a right click explore & all the data/music was still on the hard drive. then it showed on the walkman that it was charging & the battery was dead. i was previously using an AC usb adapter (plug in the wall) & it didn't seem to be charging it correctly -- so the computer works out for me & will only use that from now on -- fully operational.

Emachine t1840 wiring diagram power switch wire to mother board ?

Because there are so many different case and motherboard combinations sometimes it can be difficult following the instructions for connecting the front panel, USB header and audio header.

Below is a few generic guide that should stop some of the confusion with the labels on the wires.

***Please note this is a generic wiring guide and we can not guarantee it will work with every motherboard. Please check your motherboard manual first. Wiring the headers wrong can cause damage to the motherboard and case, this damage is not covered by the warranty***

another handy USB wiring guide can be found here http://www.directron.com/installusb.html

this maybe easier to follow

Powersurge on USB ports

Have a close look at the USB ports, make sure you don't have any bent contacts touching the outer part of the connector and shorting.

Intel webcam cs430 EXTERNAL VIDEO INPUT SHOWS BLUE SCREEN-NO VID

I had the same problem (blue screen from external cam). I read a few unrelated posts that talked about USB2 vs USB 1 and internal PCI vs external USB hub so thought I'd try a few things. I unplugged my CS430 from an external USB1 (I think - it's a Belkin iPOD synch base with 5 USB ports) hub and plugged it into the front chasis mounted USB 2.0 ports on my Dell Dimension E310 and voila!!! the external cam works and no need to mess around with SP3 etc. Hope this helps.

KVM converter

Buy a usb hub and an usb extension, so that you can have 4 or 6 free usb at the front of your computer, and you can switch devices using usb rather then the mouse converter . Using the converter on mouse and keybord make easier for the plugs to slip out, and usb is better. Note some usb modem and some other device do not support usb hubs, you have to plug them straight into the free computer plug , if you have any.
