Why does an error message continue to pop up when I am trying to restore my iPhone?

Since you didn't mention the error code number, I am going to assume it is 3014 because it is the most common iphone error associated with restoring the iphone. A fix which have been confirmed to work in most cases can be found here:

hello friend,
maybe your cable of charging is nit genuine,
if warning displays in your phone then there is the problem in cable
and if the error displays in computer then the problem should be in battery or main board

My iphone would turn on show the little apple and turn off in like 10 seconds

Get iTunes running on your PC; plug USB cable to PC, and whilst holding the HOME key on your iPhone, plug in the cable to iPhone. Continue holding HOME key on iPhone until iTunes displays the message "iPhone connected in Restore mode" or similar. Whatever happened has corrupted the OS on the iPhone and you need to do restore.

How do I charge my new iphone 16GB?

Your new iPhone comes with a USB cable and a wall charger in the box. If you don't have a computer, you can plug the wall charger to any socket in your house and connect your iPhone to the wall charger using the USB cable. However, if you have a computer, you can plug the USB cable to any USB slot from your computer and connect it to your iPhone.

You can also charge your device from any iPhone dock, or even those docks attached to your home theater system.

When I try to sync my itouch I get an error

Try restoring it...here's how...
  1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone or iPod touch, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
  2. Power off the device (Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the the iPhone or iPod touch to turn off.
  3. Press and hold the Home button while reconnecting the USB cable to iPhone. When you reconnect the USB to iPhone, the device should then power on.

Note: If you see the message "Charging... Please Wait" , let the device charge for at least 10 minutes to ensure the battery has some charge and then start with step 2 again.
  4. Continue holding the Home button while iPhone starts up. While starting up, you will see the Apple logo.
  5. When you see "Connect to iTunes" on the screen, you can release the Home button andiTuneswill display the recovery mode message:

If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, then disconnect the USB cable from iPhone and repeat steps 3-6.

Getting error message software not compatible with IPod

This compatibility issue is caused by the same change with the Apple Dock Connecter introduced with the iPhone 3G. Inside the iPod / iPhone Dock Connecter are 30 metal pins. Previous iPods and iPhones allowed for charging either over pins reserved for the USB connection or pins reserved for the obsolete Firewire connection.
While Apple apparently announced this upcoming change to manufactures of “Made for iPod” accessories back in 2005, Apple only formerly discontinued Firewire charging support with the most recent iPods. New iPods and iPhones can only charge via the USB pin.
As such, there is no way that a software update can fix this issue in the future; this is truly a modification in iPod hardware.
