Question about Sony PlayStation 2 Slimline Console
(Sorry for how long this is, this is a bit of a complex problem...)
I've had my slim PS2 for a few years now, without any prior problems. In fact, I just played it last night, and everything worked perfectly. So the problems have only just begun today, completely out of nowhere (I didn't move my PS2 or anything since then, by the way).
To sum it up, the problem is that my PS2 plays some games at full speed without any issues whatsoever, while others seem to present a major challenge for it. I know that normally the obvious solution is to just clean the discs, but trust me when I say that these discs are very clean and in great condition--very few scratches, and nothing that stopped them from playing even last night.
-For one game, the PS2 simply refused to read it. When I finally got it to do so, it flashed the "Playstation 2" screen, then went blank and was spinning, but there was no further progress at all.
-For another, everything loaded fine at first...until it tried to load a third opening screen and worked at turtle speed. I thought it wasn't going to load until it finally did, in a very laggy manner. Turned off the PS2, took out the game, cleaned it even though it wasn't really necessary, and tried again. Didn't bother waiting around this time for the screen to load...there was no difference in the speed from before.
-For yet another, there was a different problem. The game loaded just fine; I got through the start screen, and on the load screen, all of my files were there. None of the data on my memory card is corrupt, by the way. So I hit "yes" to load my data, and the screen goes blank while the disc continues to spin...and then nothing else happens.
Once again, there are some games that DO work...at full speed, as if nothing were wrong at all. The discs are all in good condition with only very minor scratches here and there that have never been an issue before. Is this a lens problem? Why would it be selective about games if that were the case? Any help would be really appreciated...thank you so much!
Hello. Base on you're problem description, and from my own experience, I believe the problem is with your lens. I recommend that you take a closer look in to it. Take it to your local game store and have it cleaned.

First of all the new laser lens will not allow your Slim to read NTSC UC games if you have a PAL european Console.
There is no reason the New laser should have not read the disc unless it Came to you damaged. It sounds like you know how to replace a laser.
