Acer crystal eye webcam had a black screen

I used the webcam without a problem for a month or so after I got my laptop in DEC '09. Recently when I open it I can't see anything but a black screen where I should be seeing myself. I tried to contact ACER for support but the directions in the support emails made no sense to me and didn't work at all.

    I have a new Acer Aspire 5536-5142 with a crystal eye webcam and am having the same problem with the black screen showing up where the video image should be. I've tweaked all the brightness and contrast settings but still no luck. The image only shows pure black. I can record and on playback hear the mic is working but the video is only black. I've installed the latest drivers from the Acer website. Chat programs recognize the camera but the image is black. Device manager shows the camera is installed and active. I've uninstalled and re-installed the device in device manager. I've uninstalled and re-installed the crystal eye webcam software. Nothing seems to work. I've emailed acer support and am waiting for their response.

I called ACER technical support. They gave me a link to a different drive to try but still had the same problem (driver installation resulted in hardware not found) message. Phone support wanted me to do a repair install (requiring me to loose all my installed programs and data). Luckily web support allowed me to send in the laptop under warranty. They replaced the webcam and returned my laptop in working order without any data loss.

Just try to look in your web cam options adjust the contrast and brightness..

In your start menu under all programs, is there a program called acer crystal eye or crystal eye? this is the webcam software. if you dont have it go here to download: http://download.cnet.com/Acer-Crystal-Eye-webcam/3000-2108_4-188685.html


You can also go to sites like cameroid.com to take pictures with your webcam without downloading anything,

How do I activate my crystal eye on my acer


Hello delaney_asia,

If you don't have a crystal eye webcam shortcut on your desktop then do the following:

•Click Start (lower left-hand of screen)
•Select Run
•Copy and paste this in the Run window (include quotation marks):
"C:\Program Files\ACER Crystal Eye webcam\Acer Crystal Eye webcam.exe"
•Click ok

The Crystal Eye webcam will become activated

Acer Aspire - Crystal Eye Webcam won't record video


Update the drivers. The Crystal Eye is not the best camera out there. I have had to update mine 7 times and only owned it for 3 months

The first thing to check is if your webcam is working correctly. If you're running Windows XP, click on the "start" button, then click on "My Computer". Now double click on "Acer Crystal Eye Webcam". It should now show a screen with video from the webcam (probably of your face in front of the computer).

Import video is only when you have recorded a video using the webcam in a particular format and not on the fly which is what you are trying to do.

Record what you want using another application and the webcam then import the video into movie maker to edit.

Alternatively, I think you need to to go the options screen and select the default audio device. Go to control pannels and see if its there and then select the webcam as the default device for MS applications.
