Question about Samsung HL-S5086W 50" HDTV

1 Answer

My Samsung television has white dots all over the screen. It first started with just a few then more showed up. My husband tried wiping off the mirror inside the tv and even using canned air. This made the problem worse. It seems that the dots are dust particles that we cannot seem to remove. Thank you for your assistance!!

Hello auntthumps, I have posted this eariler, it applies here so here goes: As the commercial goes, "It's the mirrors" and that is exactly what it is. The DMD (digital micromirror device) DLP chip that is the problem. The areas that are white are due to stuck or malfunctioning mirrors. This will only get more pronounced as time goes on. The fix is to replace the DLP chip and or module. I would advise that you get a qualified TV technician to do this. I hope this helps Thank you, Shuttle83 http://www.electron-age-technologies-llc.com

What you husband did was add dust particles to the screen, the original problem is the DMD chip. This is a common problem in this set.

White dots appearing on Samsung TV screen and multipling each day

It seems you might have an issue with the dmd board. Go to the menu, and if the dots still show on the menu, the issue definitely is with the dmd board but if they don't come up on the menu, the issue will be with the video board.

My screen has white dots all over the screen..they started out with just a few but over time they seem to have spread. Any idea if this is fixable? The television is only 3 yrs old.

Usually, the white dots (they should look more like small squares) indicates that the DLP chip is failing and needs to be replaced. It's located on the DMD board and is very expensive to replace. If you have an extended warranty, call and get them out to check.
