Hi, Matt my thoughts are the shorty lever pull distance may not be the same as your Oem lever and is confusing your clutch safety switch/sensor for more information about your question and valuable "FREE" downloads that you will need please click on the links below. Good luck and have a nice day.

My transmission will not go into park. how do i fix that

  1. Install the shift cable end of the shift cable to the transmission shift lever stud ball.
  2. Install the retainer to the shift cable and transmission bracket.
  3. Feed the shift cable through the floor panel.
  4. Lower the vehicle.
  5. Adjustment Procedure
    1. Ensure that the shift cable is not restricted.
    2. Place the shift lever into the NEUTRAL position.
    3. Position the shift cable to assume a natural routing. The shift cable must be free to move 20.0 mm (0.80 inch) axially during the adjustment under adjustment spring loads.
    4. Pull the cable end completely forward and release it. (When the cable is pulled completely forward and released, the adjustment spring will position the cable to its most rearward position.) Notice: Do not pull the shift lever ball stud forward of the transmission shift lever ball stud during installation. Pulling the shift cable end forward of the transmission shift lever ball stud before installing the shift cable end to the transmission shift lever ball stud will result in a poor adjustment.
    5. Connect the end of the shift cable to the transmission shift lever stud ball.
    6. Press the locking tab IN in order to secure the shift cable to the transmission bracket.

Just want to know how to replace brake lever correctly. I just bought this bike, took a safety course, and now I'm riding. I am very new to street riding so I'm extra cautious. However, I accidently broke...

This is a 1999 SV650, right? The brakes are hydraulic. The cable, is it on the left hand? This is a clutch cable. i suppose that makes no difference in the installation, though, so here goes:
There is a bolt with a nut on the bottom of it in the middle of the pivot for the lever. Loosen and remove this bolt and nut and slide or pivot out the old lever. Turning the lever towards the front of the bike, you will be able to release the cable. Using this same technique in reverse, install the new lever and you are all set to ride!
If the lever is on the right, it IS the brake lever and its installation is super-easy. No cable to deal with, just the bolt and nut and you are done.

Have fun, be safe,
matt

Removal of gear shift knob

There are two types of shift knobs. One that unscrews and one that the lower trim of the shift knob separates from the knob using a trim stick. After separating the lower trim from the knob pull upward to release the knob from the shift lever. If a new shifter assembly is being installed, unscrew the original shift knob or separate the lower trim from the knob and pull up to remove the knob from the shift lever. Screw the knob onto the new shifter assembly's lever no more than 14 turns or install the lower trim onto the shift lever then push the knob onto the shift lever and install the lower trim piece onto the shift knob.
