this problem i had on a pc once but i have never done it on a laptop but on the pc i had to take the casing off and their is jumper switches usually about 8 of them on the board it self their should be a bit of paper stuck to the casing on the inside then you will have to find the right jumper switch witch should be numberd then it should have an on and off setting as the password is on push the switch and put it back together this should then bypass the password unless you can get into the setup menu before it ask for password by pressing one of the f keys if not then you will have to take the case off and find these jumper switches thes are really small and if you are not confident taking the unit apart get someone else to do it i think you are going on about the password before it boots up but dont take the case off without been sure you can do it as it can be trick hope this is some help................

Have Compaq Evo 620 with power on password.
This is the same problem with IBM Thinkpads.
The Password is stored on an EEPROM and therefore cannot be reset by removing the BIOS/CMOS battery etc.
The EEPROM chip is an ATMEL 93C66 (and is different to the one in the IBM), it is hard to get at, have to dismantle the laptop completly.
Have a look at the
www.allservices.com for details on hoe to grack the password, won't be as easy as the IBMs.
Have fun

hp bios reset pasword this will only work on bios settings not hard drive password for hard drive pasword removal u can only replace the hard drive or find a good hd checking software and data wipe it using full format but this doesnt always work.
to remove bios password is simple you will ned to dismantle the laptop you need to remove the keyboard and power panel and battery. turn over the laptop look for keyboard symbol undo that screw the undo any screws that are in line with the power panel remove this panel if any screw holding down keyboard undo those lift keyboard to one side do not remove completely nor the power panel leave everything connected. How look in the bottom left corner of keyboard recess normal u will see sticker saying rtc with arrow pull that wire plug out. if u can se it pull any that are red or red and black. go make a cup of tea. then come back. with battery out connect the power supply press power button and press F1 or F2 depending on ur setup. It may just come up about changes press f1 to accept the bios screen will open power it down pull powersuplly out press and hold power button for about 5 secounds to ensure all power has gone.re-assemble all wires etc keyboard etc replace battery then power up again it should now be clear of passwords

Easiest Fix, well not easiest if you dont want to open up the laptop or desktop. . .but if it has a boot password and you forgot it (boot password meaning - password you enter for you computer to start booting / POST . . this wont help if you need a password for an encryption software like Guardian Edge to start booting up your computer) But anyways, if you forgot your password to boot up your laptop or to make changes in the BIOS then all you have to do is open up the computer and look for the CMOS battery (it looks like a watch battery so its easy to find) Take out the CMOS battery for about 30 Seconds and then put it back in. . .It should clear out the password.

I have a Toshiba Tecra A1 laptop , and am attempting to find the bios reset switch so that I can reset the password or enter the computer. I took my computer to a repair center but it will cost me over a $100.00 to reset. they told me it was a resetting of the switch that was required. I am a senior and in no position to pay this amount. If any one can instruct me as to how I can do this, I would be very greatful .
Thankyou Norm
