You may have a defective shafting, or bushing or just plain stuck. This can also damage fan cap. But the way you describe it, your cap may be bloating already.

The knob could be taken off, check if it is have screw(or in the middle of it), some maybe a screw type knob, or you have to pull it with just enough force.

Yes, the capacitor's Voltage rating is the maximum voltage the cap can take. The capacitance value is the important value to consider.

I have a Holmes HAS1650 stand up fan and I need to know how to get it to quit rotating.

Not sure what you mean by "stop rotating"

I assume you mean to stop oscillating. There should be a knob on top of the motor housing that you push down to oscillate and pull up to stop oscillating.

If you mean to stop the blades from spinning there should be a fan speed control knob on the top of the motor housing that you turn to "O" to stop the fan.

Here is an instruction manual for a similar fan...

Fan will not oscillate anymore. it makes a clicking noise like it's stuck

follow this steps and fix it. God bless you
f the fan doesn't work at all, make sure power is on at the outlet, then test the power cord . Test the motor and replace it if it is faulty. Clean and test the speed-control switch and service it if it is faulty . If the fan works on only some speeds, clean and test the speed-control switch .
If an oscillating fan doesn't move from side to side, check the clutch knob, then the gear assembly. If the gear assembly is faulty, you can service it (see below).
If the fan blades turn slowly, check the blades for a loose hub and tighten if needed. If the fan shaft is noisy or dry, lubricate it.

My Craftsman Table Saw doesn't go to 0 degrees- it stops @ 3-5 degrees

Most likely it is the trunnion under the saw. On the right hand side the wheel that changes the angle of the blade should fit into the cast iron part under the saw where the blade is. You'll have to tip the saw onto its back or side and check this connection as it probably needs some grease. If that's not it then oil the gears on the trunnion that control the saw angle.

I have a 42" wind

the first thing to check is that the remote control is working and the control panel of the fan itself are working probably and i think they did but you have to check first
this fan oscillating control button is not a mechanical connection like the regular fan so if you are not using it wrong(and i think you don`t ) an if all the buttons are working -except the oscillating function - (and i think they are ) turn that thing back and test it at the shop

Electric blade brake sounds like it is seized up. Upon starting table saw (bosch 4000), motor sounds like it is binding. How can I disengage the brake??

There is no electric brake on the Bosch 4100 table saw. If the motor sounds like it is being held back its possible the rear armature bearing has seized or the field coil is faulty. Both these problems cause the motr to not turn at full speed. The motor must be serviced.

mcdevito75 here, Sounds like that oscillating swtich is either a little loose or could use a drop or 2 of 3 in 1 oil. Try to twist offf the oscillating swatch button and see if you can tighten it or put a drop of oil on it.

I am surprised at that amount of wear in so little use.
Apart from that the first thing to try is WD40 on any stuck item. But don't over force the thing as you might break something

Here are two links for the parts manual and the owners manual. It is not uncommon for a tool to go slightly out of line with use due to vibration and and movement of the arbor. As for the tool not tilting, it just sounds like the worm screw and gear are off line. this is a pretty quick fix but it requires you to turn your saw upside down to access the set screws. I glanced at the diagram and it looks like the handle for the adjustment is held on by a set pin. you will also be able to access this from inside the cabinet.
