If your computer beeps during start-up:
Run Dell Diagnostics to identify a more serious cause.

Beep Codes Your computer might emit a series of beeps during start-up if the monitor cannot display errors or problems. This series of beeps, called a beep code, identifies a problem. One possible beep code (code 1-3-1) consists of one beep, a burst of three beeps, and then one beep. This beep code tells you that the computer encountered a memory problem.
If your computer beeps during start-up:

Tip

Working with Switch mode Power supplies.

To help in identifying common problems in SMPS circuits.

There was a time when we had only transformers fitted on all the appliances which was sturdy and could stand up to rigourous voltage conditions. The disadvantges was the growing cost of copper & lamination metal, the weight and the universal voltage condition.
The switch mode power supply came in to replace all the devices with an added advantage od space, cost and range of voltage but brought in higher failures when there was a voltage error.
So I am listing few tips to look into a SMPS failure and possible safeguards.
First of all in a SMPS failure if a fuse has blown the chances are there is a fault in the circuit and very rarely the fuse can be replaced unless the component is sorted out.
So check from the power supply the possible major components to suspect.:
1. Fuse
2. The surge protector -- usually a varistor ( metal oxide)
3. Rectifiers- in bridge circuit.
4. Chopping oscillators- Intergrated circuit.
5.Chopping drivers-- MOSFETS ( now incorporating a single IC for OSC and drive )
6. SM ferrite transformer.
7. Main filter capacitor ( will be seen as leak or short)
8.Discrete reverse feedback diodes, capacitors or fusible resistors .
9.Optocoupler which is the feedback trigger.
10.Short in the secondary circuit can switch off power by current limiting.

These are the most possible components that one must check on in case of a SMPS failure.
To prevent a SMPS failure it is important that there are no transcient surges in the line supply, So have a good tight connection. If isolation transformers are used for costly sets it will be ideal to check many failures.
Try not to leave the sets always connected to mains except if it is necessary to set the clock functions or timer functions.

I have Sony VGC-RB30 and after power failure it is don't start at all, I can heat clicking and green button at back is flicking, what should I do?

first you have to remove the 24 pin conncter to your motherboard from the smps and short the green and black pin and see wether the smps is working if not working change them if working remove the the four pin conector to the motherboard from the smps and switch on the computer if the processor fan is working connect back the 4 pin connector to your motherboard and switch on the computer if not working the power section in the mother board has failure you can get assistance from a chiplevel service personal

Lg flatron does not come on at all

Possible failure of the power supply section and so in this case the SMPS unit. I shall give you a link on possible SMPS failures.

Suddenly it seems there is no power, nothing on the control panel will lights up. I have reset the breaker with no success. Please advise on the problem and solution.

Possible failur of the control panel. It can be a power supply failure in this unit, can be the SMPS, if so please refer to my repair guide to service SMPS, Check my link:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r5826301-working_switch_mode_power_supplies
if not the controller unit must be changed.

MY 32" LCD PHILIPS KEEPS CLICKING AND SWITCHING ON AND OFF ON ITS OWN, ALSO THE REMOTE RANDOMLY STOPS WORKING

tomlyndlevjo, Possible failure of internal "switch-mode-power-supply" board in tv. Remote not bad or intermittant!!! SMPS board is detecting "fault condition" and goes into "shutdown mode" to try and "save itself" from catastrophic, nonrecoverable failure. e.g. sparks, smoke, fire!!! If warranty no longer valid option for you, then you or qualified electronics technician will need to investigate SMPS board to find cause as to why SMPS cycles in/out of "shutdown mode" 12fixlouie

Monitor will not power on and led light is off.

It is possible that the fuse has failed and has cut off the power. If so there sould be a failure in the smps- switch mode power supply- which has to power the low tension DC voltages. If you are confidentt open the rear sie and use a multimeter to check for fuse failure , if so check for short in the smps. replace the driver or capacitor or the rectifier. check for any short also on the surge protector. If the DC comes out then we have a serious issue and could be failure of the mother board. you will need to check for microprocessor failure, LCD driver/processor faulty. You will need to be proceeding in this flow chart. Helpful? Good day

Computer power problem

Hello,
For solving your problem do the following:
1. Check that the power cable is connected properly to the monitor
2. See that the SMPS of the CPU is working
3. Check that the power output from the SMPS is upot 12V

If not change the SMPS it may be due to failure of SMPS.

Let me know if your problem is solved and rate me as FIXYA!

Help

A common failure with these symptoms in the SD582HD5 is the SMPS module (switch mode power supply). The supply can be removed and what you'll find are ring cracks, together with some possible component failures are causing you the symptoms you're describing.
Reflow solder on all the pin connections and heat sinked components. Test fuses F201 (6.3a) & F202 (5a) for open and replace if necessary. This should restore normal power-up but you may still have a problem with convergence. When the SMPS fails in these units they usually go in a surge. The greatest weakness in these sets is the convergence circuit. And it is possible that the SMPS could cause failure of the convergence amps. If this happens you'll have to replace he amps also. This unit takes two STK392-110's but I recommend you replace them with STK392-150's for greater reliability. However, test the convergence after the SMPS repair and see if it's even necessary.

No picture

Kennyo, A no picture symptom could be quite a number of things from SMPS failure to SMPS-POD to SMPS-DC board to oneof the main boards. The service manual for this unit has a comprehensive set of tests to preform to narrow down the failure. I have it and would be glad to send it to you. Email me privately. premtech@willapabay.org Good Luck Bill
