Delete unwanted scenes

I've tried everything, but I can't seem to delete unwanted scenes.  I've followed the instructions in the operating guide, but it's not clear.  The DVD that's being used is a DVD+RW.  What am I doing wrong?  Is this camcorded even able to delete a few selected scenes?

Re: Delete unwanted scenes

In order to do editing of footage, the camera needs to be in "VR" mode. This is not as compatible as "VIDEO" Mode with DVD players, but will probably work on most newer DVD players.

Re: Delete unwanted scenes

So it means that even though the dvd is a dvd-rw, it still can't be formatted or erased?

Re: Delete unwanted scenes

The FORM that you have to be on has to be VR not VIDEO. But the bad thing is on VR you cant finalize and play it as a DVD only on the computer, unlike what you can do on VIDEO.

How do I find the delete option on my hitachi camcorder?

Hi! The solution to your problem is Three fold.

First make sure that your Camcorder is in the Disc Navigation mode to be able delete your required scene. When the camcorder is in the play back mode the delete scene won't appear.

The second situation is to check if your scene is not locked because if it is locked you are not able to delete it.
Supposing that your scene is not locked then check what type of DVD disc you have. The discs labelled DVD Ram, DVD+RW, and the Card can be deleted. The DVD-RW can be deleted only when in VR mode and not the VF mode. Other types of discs like the DVD R can not be deleted.

Another way of deleting a scene after it has been recorded on a disc that's not deletable is to transfer the recorded scene to a computer disc and then edit it off.

My husband has 'lost' all our recordings on our video camcorder. an they be recovered? He thinks he tried to delete 1 recording but they've all gone. They were saved on a memory card. Thanks.

definitely fixable. First off stop using that sd card, when a file is deleted it basically just makes it invisible, and lets the device know that the space it occupied is up for grabs. When you plug the camera into the computer via usb cable, or the flash card into a card reader it is mounted on it as a removable hard drive. Using a recovery program you should be able to un-delete anything, that wasn't written over.
This seems like a very strait forward free tool, just point it to the drive letter the card/camera is mounted to, and follow the instructions. If this tool does not work out for you there are plenty of other ones out there to try, not to mention pay versions.
Best of luck!

How do you delete videos from your sony handycam DCR-DVD405

This Sony camcorder uses mini-DVDs to record and there are certain restrictions when DVD is used, it is not like videotape. For a DVD-R disc, you cannot delete video once it is recorded because this type of disc is a record once only. Depending on which other disc type you use and how it was initialized, you MAY be able to delete video. For a DVD+RW disc, or a DVD-RW disc initialized in VIDEO mode, you can delete the last scene IF you have not removed the disc and not recorded any new video. For a DVD-RW disc initialized in VR mode, you can delete anytime. And here is how:
Turn on camcorder and press PLAY. Select the video or still image tab that contains the data you want to delete. Touch EDIT. Touch DELETE. Select what you want deleted. The selected scene is marked with a checkmark. Press and hold the image on the LCD screen to confirm. Touch RETURN to go back to previous screen. Touch OK - YES. You cannot recover data once deleted. There is also a DELETE ALL to delete all video or images.

I had the same problem while trying to delete video off of the camera's hard drive using the VideoCam Suite software. I never could figure out how to do it using the software. However, you can delete scenes from the hard disk directly in the camcorder using the menu. For instructions, see page 59 of the manual for this camcorder at Good luck!

Delete Scenes

The problem will be with the mode. If you are using the VR mode for replay, it will not delete the scenes usually if the DVD is other than Panasonic. Try the other mode
