1920x1080 resolution is the starting point for HD video. If you have set your desktop resolution to that or anything avove then you should be running at HD resolutions. Maybe the image/video you are watching is not at a HD resolution, therefore it will appear distorted and streched (poor quality). To fully experience HD playback use video files and imaged that are at the 1920x1080 resolution and above.

Says change resolution to 1920x1080

To change the resolution of your monitor, right click your desktop and click Properties. Go to the Settings tab, and then drag the slider in the Screen Resolution box all the way to the right. That should make it 1920x1080. Click OK and then your resolution should change.

My ps3 wont show up on my tv screen it is a 42 inch plasma it will not show up it keeps saying invailed format what do i do?

Your 22 monitor is set up (most likely) with a max resolution on 1650x1050 and you ps3 stays set to that even when you use it on your dads 1080p TV (1920x1080) and since your 22 in monitor is a non-standard resolution (in the TV world that is ) ie 720p = 1280x720 and 1080p = 1920x1080 it has to adjust to the closest resolution (your ps3) but sometimes the auto switching of resolutions doesn't work like it should..it just doesn't work sometimes. I suggest that when you take it to your dads you adjust the resolution to 720p ahead of time (a resolution both the 22 monitor and tv should be able to handle ) and when you get to his house it should work at least enough to see everything and then when already there you can adjust up to the higher 1080p (1920x1080). Then adjust back to 720p before you go home again. Sorry for the long winded post.

Here is a link to resolutions explained in case it helps.

I'm not sure I totally understand the problem, but in general if you can't change to a higher resolution that indicates an issue with your video/graphics drivers rather than your monitor.
I'd try updating your graphics drivers (download the free program Speccy if you need help determining what video card you have) and then seeing if you can set your desired resolution after a reboot.

I AM FROM INDIA I RECENTLY PURCHASED AN AIRTEL DTH HD VERSION, SINCE I HAVE A SAMSUNG LCD MONITOR (SYNCMASTER 2233sw) WHICH SUPPORTS FULL HD (1920X1080). MY MONITOR RUNS FULL HD WITH DVI CABLES OF...

Hi gurmeet,

What I suspected from your description of problem is that there is some kind of compatibility issue or content protection when you plug in an additional HDMI to DVI converter.

I am also using an Airtel HD connection, though however, I wouldn't need any kind of converter because I am directly connecting HDMI cable to my LCD and it works like a wonder. I set up my box output resolution to 1080i and there is no display resolution mismatch. Not even at other resolutions.

Airtel is using 1920x1080 resolution in signal transmission, so the possibility of 1079 from there end is ruled out, otherwise, the same problem would have been observed when direct HDMI cable is being used. I hope you understand my point.

Now you might also ask why you weren't able to see this problem when you connect the monitor to your PC graphics card. I would like to tell you that graphic cards are very versatile and does have the capability of 1:1 pixel mapping, so there you wouldn't see any such problem.

read this link for more http://www.hdtvsupply.com/hdtodvico.html , where a person is able to match resolution using a similar converter.

I believe the converter you use isn't able to do 1:1 pixel mapping and is actually downgrading the resolution which your monitor is not able to support.

You can try out other resolution type from the STB and if you still see similar problems, then you may need to get an alternative converter.
Follow these steps to change the STB resolution type;
Enter the Menu from STB remote -> scroll to 'My Settings' -> Enter 'System Setup' -> 'HD Setup'. Here you change to a lower resolution and press ok from remote.

Using an external monitor with 1920x1080 resolution in my laptop

Well IF the Drivers support it then YES you can. Simply, make sure that the setup, is dual monitor, with extended desktop, active. Now, go into properties, and click, on the external screen, IF you can set this resolution, to what you wish, you will be able to do so. Both Monitors Do NOT have to be the same, usually, a laptop['s screen, resolution, isn't that large, but certain, screens and drivers, can support this. Ensure you have the most up-to-date Video drivers, for your Card.

Hi, my problem is that i can run my pc only in safe mode and if i try to use it in the normal way the monitor tunrs black and the blue light starts blinking, i can't configure it with the resolution...

This usually happens when your computer is set to a resolution that the monitor does not support. I have seen it when I set the resolution too high. That's why windows asks you to confirm the new mode after is switches to a new mode.

I think that in safe mode, you can set your 'normal' resolution. Try setting it to 1024x768 or something. If this helps you can try to find a resolution that works for your monitor. If -after a resolution change- your monitor goes dark: Don't touch the keyboard. Windows should switch back after about 10 seconds.

Using HDMI : PC - TV picture isn't clear?

Check the resolution you have that port (monitor) set to. Most likely you have it set at a resolution that the TV doesn't like, or perhaps it is set at its lowest possible resolution. Just make sure it is set at whatever the highest your TV handles, 1920x1080, 1280x720, etc.

Connecting lenovo t61 with samsung ln40a650

The LN40A650 supports 1920x1080 resolution from VGA. I know this because I've done it. It will also support lower resolutions, but certainly not higher. Drop your resolution to something low like 640x480, plug into the LN40A650, then up the resolution to 1920x1080. If this doesn't work it's 1 of 2 problems. It could be the refresh rate. Go to your display settings, click on Advanced, choose the Monitor tab, and set the screen refresh rate to 60Hz. If this still doesn't work it means your video card won't support that high of a resolution.
