Thinkpad T30 - Coloured lines on Screen

It seems that my IBM Thinkpad T30 LCD screen is faulty as when I turn it on all I see are very thin colored lines although the backlight is fine. I have tried resetting the video cable connections in the back of the screen and also the inverter but have not been able to reset the cable at the mainboard end as it seems you have to remove lots of parts to get to it. However I have an old T21 that doesn't work but I know the screen is good.
Can I test the T30 with a T21 Screen?

My ibm T30 thinkpad screen is not working

Hi there,
It's hard to say, but if I understood correctly, your screen still functions as long as it does not stay on for a long time.
There are three possibilities
1- Video card (If you have an external monitor, plug it in and see if the same issue occurs. If so, the video card is the issue)
2- The flat cable which carries the signal from the video card to the LCD screen. (Does moving lid only (screen) causes it to behave differently? (If so, it may be the flat cable)
3- The LCD itself (In case none of the above apply)

Vertical lines appear on my Thinkpad T30 screen, making it difficult to see or read anything from the screen. What can/should I do get this problem solved?

Try Pressing and holding different parts of the screen see if image sticks if not this means your LCD screen is bad and you should replace it.

IBM T30 screen has lines going through it the display already replaced the lcd.

I had the same laptop. Despite the fact that this has been the most reliable laptop for me, when it was on it's last leg I had the same problem as you.
Your problem is still probably a faulty LCD screen, but also likely is that your laptop is starting to die. If you want to try having a new LCD installed, that may fix the problem but do so knowing it may not fix it.
Thanks for using FixYa.

Dear user,
Good day! It seems that your laptop has hardware problem... Maybe the inverter, your LCD screen, VGA, BIOS, or even motherboard. I suggest for you to go to your nearest computer technician to diagnose it manually.

I have T30 thinkpad and the screen is black. You can see the page faintly. How do I increase the lighting?

Try attaching an external monitor to the laptop & see if you could get any display on it. If this is successful, then you might have either a faulty LCD cable or screen inverter board.
The LCD cable transfers data signal from the motherboard & video card to the LCD screen. It also supplies high voltage DC power to the screen inverter board. The screen inverter board works as a power supply for the backlight lamp mounted inside the LCD screen. It converts low voltage DC power to high voltage AC power needed for the backlight lamp

My T30 turns on but the screen doesnt work?

Try to attach EXTERNAL MONITOR to check if you have display from External Display and to confirm that your Laptop System is still working. If you got display from external monitor, therefore you have a faulty LCD / Inverter (gives your LCD a back-light)

Turned on and just get vertical lines

if you have tried an external monitor to the laptop and it is still giving the same display then I think that there is something faulty with your vga or display card..Check the manufacturers website and it could be a driver issue but if not then it's time to get a new pc..unless you have the knowledge of going further..Please leave a voting for my help. Many thanks...

IBM T30 Screen Change

There are disputes regarding this. It depends if the size of the monitor is the same, and if the board supports the monitor connection. I see that you replied to your own question, may I inquire whether it worked or not?
