Question about Acer Computers & Internet

No internal Microphone with Windows XP/Linux

As stated above, with he exception of Windows Vista/7 the internal mic both works sounds great. But not in XP, yes, I have the current Realtek drivers, and it still refuses to reproduce sound.

Here's some more information, The audio chip is a Realtek ALC268.
I'll reiterate this. ALL of the audio features work except the internal microphone, yes, the Microphone jack works. It has to be a configuration issue, but uninstalling the drivers/device does nothing after a restart. I've also tried using the outdated drivers from Acer to no avail.

... Let me give some more information. >.< Yes, I know there is a difference between the XP and Vista Realtek drivers. This is a fresh install after audio drivers were installed. On XP Pro. I used the restore partition and went back to home and the Mic works. But not on Professional. I need pro for work and my campus network.

Forgot this... The system restore wouldnt do anything becasue it's a fresh install. Nothing has been changed, the mic wasnt working fromt he get-go on Pro.

    I appreciate your efforts.

I recommend you to check the settings once.

Check with the Sound properties and Advanced control of internal microphone. You may check the settings from the below links:

The audio drivers (Realtek) would be different for windows XP and Vista, ensure that the exact drivers for Windows XP are installed.

Also try with System Restore, restore your computer to an earlier time when there was no problem with the microphone in the system.

I suggest you to check the Volume settings.

Type mmsys.cpl in Run window and click on OK.

In the Volume tab, ensure that Mute is unchecked.

Click on Advanced option and make sure that all the mute options are unchecked.

Click on Options and select Properties.

In the Properties window, click on Recording and ensure that Internal Mic is selected.

Now go back to Sound and Audio device properties and select Voice tab, click on Volume under Voice recording and see that Internal Mic is selected.

You can find all these settings in notebook-solutions website.

Now if everything is okay, click on Test Hardware option in Voice tab and follow the onscreen instructions.

The internal microphone option should be selected when the related window appears.

You can now check if your microphone works or not.

You can notice the bar in green colour beside the Recording option which represents the working of your microphone and if you get the message that your voice has not been detected click on Back and check the option Internal Microphone if it is unchecked and check now.

Hi, Internal microphone on my acer aspire 8920g which originally has vista is not working now on windows 7. To be honest I didn't pay attention while I had vista and can't now remember if it worked at...

I suggest you go into control panel and device manager and see if your internal mic is listed there. If it is right click on it and see if it is selected as your default mic. I believe it may be un-selected. If that doesn't work I would just use the external mic with Skype as the internal mics with most laptops aren't that good anyway.

My internal microphone will not work. I have also tried an external mic but this also has not worked.

The bottom right corner of your screen should be a speaker icon, right click and goto recording devices. Find the item that says Microphone, left click on it, and click on properties. There's a tab that says Levels, select it and move the slider all the way to the right (increase volume). This is the process in windows vista, but should be similar in windows 7, maybe even XP.

Hp Dv6000, problems recording with built in microphones

For Vista:
1) go to Start > Control Panel > Sound
2) click the recording tab
3) Right click the device that is not the new one you bought.
4) choose Disable

For XP:
1) Right click My Computer or go to Start > Control Panel > System
2) On the system window click the hardware tab
3) Click the Device Manager button
4) Scroll down to the Sound, video and game controllers.
5) Look for any device that is not your new mic as well as your sound card.
6) Right click and disable anything that are not the mentioned above.
7) Exit and test.

If you have XP and the XP Method above doesnt work then please make a comment stating so so I can give you another solution.

I bout a microphone at Target. The name is 'PC Microphone with Detachable Laptop Mic' and it is from General Electris. It says it is supposed to work on Vista, Mac, Linux and Messengers, such as Yahoo, MSN...

Be sure mic is plug in the right input (the pink one).
Then open sound properties (in vista search for sound in startup menu) and then configure and test your mic in the recording tab.
