This belt is easist to install with the deck all the way down. Make sure there are no burrs on any of the pulleys, (will eat up your new belt in short order), also make sure that the 2 drive pulleys for the blades turn freely, (may have grass impacted around them, you may need to remove the 2 guards on top of the deck to clean, (if they do not spin eaisly). Triple check to make sure the belt is properly routed, one mistake and your belt is broken as soon as you engage. With the engine OFF, engage blades to check tension. If the belt is still loose, you likely have it routed incorrectly.

Craftsman 42 inch15 hp kohler mower 6 speed manual transmission- Will not go into gear

This is a crash type gearbox, so if there is any drag on the belt to the gearbox pulley it will not go into gear, with the engine not running will it go into gear? if yes it is a belt dragging issue, check the keepers around the engine pulley and gearbox pulley.

Steps needed to change transaxle belt

lift the front of the tractor up at least 3 feet and lower the mow deck to give you clearance. push the clutch pedal and lock it down to release belt tension. remove the mower belt from the engine pulley only. remove the trans belt from the idlers about midway back then from the trans pulley & finally from the engine pulley. put the new belt around the engine shaft above the mower drive pulley but not on the drive pulley then around the trans pulley. now you can put it on the drive pulley and finally on the idlers. make sure you have it under all the various keepers or the belt will shred in like 10 minutes. release the clutch pedal & check the belt again to ensure it is in the correct place. replace the mower drive belt & ensure that didn't come off other pulleys in the process. lower the front of the tractor and test

HOW TO ADJUST THE CUTTING BLADE TENSION OF THE MOWER BELT.

There is no adjustment on the Craftsman mower belt tension. The tension is maintained by a spring. If the belt is to loose you either have the wrong belt or something is broken like a mandrel housing that holds the fixed pulleys in place.

How do you adjust the pulleys on a 42" 20 HP craftsman tractor mower. The belt burned off and when I replaced it with a new one the new one began to shred

There is no adjustment on these pulleys. Sounds like the belt was over the blade pulley brake arms or idler pulley guide. They will shred a belt in nothing flat.

My craftsman mower runs fine, but it wont cut. it seems like the blades are not turning fast enough to cut. is this a bad belt, or something else?

check for belt wear *(the edges of the belt look frayed or scrubbed down?) and also look at the belt tensioner for wobbly/loose pulleys.

With the engine off have someone move the engagement lever while you look underneath at the belt to see which pulley is taking up the belt slack so you can then determine if this pulley has any issues.

If this mower is fairly new it is probably just belt wear. New belts are typically 20-30 dollars to replace. Less any labor.

Good luck and be careful!

Cahnging drive belt on mower

dont understand your question ... get the belt ... it was designed to fit ... there are probably at least three pulleys. put the belt around the motor pulley and the trans pulley then figure out how the clutch or tensioner pulley interact with it.

Hi. The belt must be trying to move a pulley that is either frozen, partially frozen or excessively loose. remove the belt and check the action of each pulley. If you have a frozen one, use some WD-40 to unfreeze it and if you have an excessively loose one replace the entire pulley assembly as it is worn out.
