If you can make a copy then install the software from hp.com for your printer and you will be able to scan.
If you cannot make a copy then your printer hardware has malfunctioned and so you need to get a new printer.

Why can't I get it to scan?

Hi derek tauschek,

I would be happy to help you scan. Are you currently getting an error message of some sort when you try to scan, or perhaps the software won't open?

I suggest using the HP Print and Scan Doctor as it can help to identify and/or resolve the issue. Please use the following link to download and run the Print and Scan Doctor:
Find and Fix Common Printer Problems Using HP Diagnostic Tools for Windows

If the issue persists, feel free to let me know and I will do all I can to help. If you require further assistance, please let me know which version of Windows you have, and/or if you are using a Mac (in which case the Print and Scan Docotor won't work).

Thanks. I hope the Print and Scan Doctor can quickly resolve the issue.

I work on behalf of HP.

How do you get an Epson Stylus NX410 out of copy mode?

The NX400 will automatically go into Scan or Print mode from software. So if you want to scan, launching the Epson Scan software will control the scan functions. Similarly, printing from any application will cause the NX400 to go into Print mode. Copy Mode is the only mode you control from the printer device itself.

Hope this helps.

Problem with scan from print server

This unit does NOT officially support Samsung printers... but it will allow printing with some. It does NOT support multi-function printers features like scanning for any brand of multi-function printers.

Scanner leaves three vertical lines on scanned page

Hello,

A dirty glass base can cause ‘spots’ or blemishes to appear on your final printout. Additionally, if you had some sort of opaque liquid that may have transferred on to the glass base from a previous operation. But the majority of the unwanted vertical lines are generally caused by either a dirty or damaged print roller or faulty LEDs in the Scanner Module.

To separate one from the other you have to check the following:

Do you only see the lines with a Scan operation?
Do your print jobs print fine without any unwanted lines?

If you only see the unwanted lines during a Scan operation, then most likely you have a fault/dirty/obstructed LED module.

If you see the unwanted lines with all print operations (Scan, Print and Copy), then you most likely have a worn out, damaged or dirty Print Roller.

Hope this helps…

Where is the black line when you scan? Where is it when you print? Does it appear on every print job or only things you have scanned?

You need to install the print driver and Sharpdesk before you connect the USB cable.
