When memry card is write protected, you can not write (save) anything on it. There is a tiny botton which is set to write protect to prevent the content of the memory be written over. When you write over another file (picture) the old one will be destroyed.

If you would like to write to your memory, you have take out the memory and move the botton to other side of the write protect and insert it back in your camera. Now you can take picturs and save them on the memory stick.

You would want to write protect if you do not want accidently replace an old stored picture with the new one.

I hop it helped you

"memory card is write protected " on the screen. How to remove it.

Look at the memory card. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

My panasonic lumix has a message across the screen that say "This memory card is blocked" How do I get it to go off?

Usually Lumix says "This memory card is protected" when it means that the card has been locked with the little switch on the card (SD card). The message you report may mean something else.

What does 'Write Protect' mean and how do I get rid of it?

That means that your SD card (or whichever memory card you use) is write protected and you cannot edit the card's content in any way.

Take your memory card out of the camera and plug it into your computer. There should be a place for you to change the memory card's protections that way. Sometimes, as with USB drives, there might be a small sliding lock physically located on the card which will also write protect the device.

What does write protect mean?

"Write Protect" means that something is locked and your device (camera) cannot "write" to it's storage area.
What type of "storage media" are you using?
For example:  the camera's internal memory, a CompactFlash card, a Memory Stick, an "xD-Picture Card" (micro, mini or regular sized), or a Secure Digital/MultiMediaCard.
[Did you put something  (a small plastic card of some sort) into a slot on the camera before or after turning it on?
Those little cards usually have a tiny button (also called a switch or lever) on them that will move back and forth to lock (write protect) or unlock it. This sounds like the memory card inside your camera is locked or "Write Protected.

To fix this simply take it out, closely examine the memory for the button- the button will be closer to the word "lock" or "protect" and all you need to do is gently slide it in the opposite direction from where it currently is. Put it back into the camera and see if it still says "Write Protect."

"Memory card requires formatting"

This error message means that the card is corrupted or formatted for another digital camera. Turn off the camera. Insert a new card or format the card. CAUTION: Formatting deletes all pictures and videos, including those that are protected. Removing a card during formatting may damage the card.
