I suppose that you have a DVD writer or a HD DVD drive installed by default. I am having the same problems on an Aspire 5920 G with a HDDVD Toshiba and the problem is because of mister Bill Gated and windows vista... the drivers for DVD RW and HD DVDs are all messed up in vista and they enter in conflict with those from the burn program. ERROR 204 corresponds with "POWER CALLIBRATION ERROR" witch means that the beam could not be centered on the row it was writing or that the beam could not write on the disc. You can try a google search for youre dryve type firmware and upgrade it. To find youre drive tipe go to device manager DVD/CDrom drives and copy the name of the device (eg: if it is TOSHIBA DVDW/HD TS-L802A ATA Device search for "TOSHIBA TS-L802A firmware" on the web and upgrade the firmware to the newest on the market). Alternatively you could install windows XP and vurn from XP and you will not experience any problems

when you get to safe mode try to do a system restore to a date that the computer worked............on xp it will give you a screen to enter safemode with yes or no options ........choose no to go diorectly to system restore...............if not xp look for system restore in the system tools folder on start menu or in control panel............the screen saver error is most likely because you are in safe mode.
HI pewilson929. The Catalyst Control centre is a program that lets you configure your video card settings without using the Control Panel - Display. It installs when you download a driver for you specific ATI product. If you get this error it means you may have the correct driver for your video card. Did you get the driver from ACER or ATI? Just in case uninstall it from Add/Remove and restart and then download this driver from the acer's website. http://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/Driver/VGA/VGA_ATI_8.511_Vistax86x64.zip?acerid=633639035630652736&Step1=Notebook&Step2=Aspire&Step3=Aspire%205535&OS=V10&LC=en&BC=Acer&SC=PA_7 I hope this helps. Please let us know if this works for you. Thank you :D
This problem is due to a failing hard drive I believe. When the virus scan is working you get a clicking sound then it crashes. Clicking sounds from your laptop while running scans on the hard drive are bad. The first thing to do is to get your irreplaceable files backed up then contact a service professional to get the drive replaced. If it is a reputable service person they should be able to clone the drive over to a new drive with no major issues. Be sure to insist on your old drive back. Even though it may have issues, my guess is that you still have personal information you would not want someone else to get hold of.
