May need an interlock switch, located behind control panel. For otr models, remove the grille and you will find a screw that holds the panel on, remove it and lift up on the panel before pulling out to keep from breaking tabs, switches will be to your left behind the door. for counter models, the case needs to be removed. If there is no sign of scorching at the switches, you may need a magnetron.

The magnetron has failed, "heats food" to repair the unit will approach the cost of a new microwave oven.

Have ge profile spacesaver xl sensor. will not heat strange buzzing sound and burning smell. clock, light, vent still work

This is most likely a defective magnetron, especially with the burning smell. There are two other parts that can be a problem, the high voltage capacitor and diode, all three work together to heat food. If the magnetron is the culprit, probably cheaper to replace the microwave oven.

Ge microwave jvm160wj01 was working and suddenly started buzzing, gave bad electric/burnt smell and buzzes. Still buzzes and does not seem to heat now.

Sounds like the magnetron just shorted out. Its the part the generates the microwaves that heat the food. Buzzing sounds are a symptom of a shorted mag. Usually not worth fixing since the magnetron costs almost as much as a new oven. Sorry.

Spilled some water on top ge micro wave while cleaning cabinets

YOUR BLOWER FAN MAY HAVE QUIT AND WITHOUT THE AIR CIRCULATION IT OVERHEATIND THE INTERNALS OF IT AND UNFORTUNATELY THIS UNIT WILL COST YOU MORE TO FIX THAN GETTING A NEW ONE. RED HOT IS VERY BAD ON A MICROWAVE

My GE spacemaker microwave won't heat and makes an unusual sound

I have the same problem on my oven- model JVM1640WB and called an appliance repairman who is honest and reliable (I've used him before). He said the problem is with the electrode, to fix it is roughly $300. He recommended buying a new microwave rather than fixing it.

Motor sounds differently, smells like something is getting hot, won't heat the food

Do you have good air flow coming out of the vents?

If for some reason the cooling fan stopped working, it can cause the magnetron to overheat and be damaged.

If you don't still have your manual, you can download it here:

It will address ventilation issues.

Please write back with more details if you need further help.
