How do i change the bulb

if they are lcd, or dlp projection tv's then there will be an access door on the side, front or back that is easy to access and would require only a philips or standard screwdriver to replace. if they are a tube type rear projection tv, then they don't have bulbs, they have picture tubes, in which case you could not change them yourself, but you would not need to, because picture tubes hardly ever go bad.

Blue color tube damage

If you have had the set diagnosed by a technician, $500.00 for a picture tube repair and convergence alignment is not that bad.
Replacing the tube is most likely the best solution. Rebuilding a tube is something that can be done, but the tube has to be removed and sent off for rebuild, this can lead to a very lengthy repair.

I could not recommend that you replace the tube yourself.

If you are going to repair it yourself, there are some things to consider:
  1. The picture tubes are not as easy as some other components of a television, therefore they are not just a plug in affair.
  2. There is a high risk of electrical shock when dealing with picture tubes, as they will hold a charge like a capacitor. This charge is around 30,000 volts.
  3. The deflection yoke on the tube can be easily damaged during replacement.
  4. The focus and dynamic convergence can be difficult to do.
  5. If the set has scan velocity modulation, which I think this does. The SVM part of the tube has to be in the exact spot.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.

Phillips 51pw936317f picture not as sharp as when new

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc.

You may even see halos around images.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.

My 52 inch rca tv has sound but the picture keeps popping on and off .what can be wrong with it?

2 THINGS THAT USUALLY CAUSE THIS PROBLEM IS
1) THERE IS AN ARC FROM ONE OF THE PICTURE TUBE ANODE LEADS--15.00-- THE TUBES ARE STILL GOOD , JUST THE LEAD IS BAD---NOT EASY TO REPLACE ,,YOU HAVE TO CUT THE OLD ONE OUT AND REPLACE USING SEALANT ....
2) A PART CALLLED A HIGH VOLTAGE BLOCK--75.00--THIS PART TAKES HV FROM A FLYBACK TRANSFORMER ,,,SPLITS THE VOLTAGE TO GO TO THE 3 PICTURE TUBES
KEEP IN MIND ,,IF YOU HEAR A POP--IT'S USUALLY A HIGH VOLTAGE ARCING TO SOME METAL--YOU ARE BETTER NOT PLAYING THE TV

How do I replace the blue color tube

no i would not even try it. you first of all would have to get at the tube and then you have to replace all the stuff on the tube then align the tube and then convergence, 800 bucks for three tubs isn't a bad price, however another couple hundred will buy you a new one...

just for giggles how about just replacing the blue, how much?

Red Flash -- TV Shuts Off

Unfortunately, you are describing the classic symptom of a bad picture tube. When the tube warms up a short developes in the neck of the tube, usually between the heater and cathode and this forces the tube to go full on, giving a bright flash of the color of the defective tube. The computer senses the extra current flowing through the flyback (high voltage) transformer when the tube is shorted and shuts the set down. The only solution is to replace the picture tube, but the Sony tubes are relatively inexpensive (about $175 for the entire tube assembly including sealed coolant) and they are very easy to replace and realign, but of course this must be handled by someone with experience.

Green Screen

The lines are retrace lines and the green screen could be a problem with the picture tube or a problem with the video circuitry connected to the green gun of the picture tube. Troubleshooting must be done to determine the overall cause of this problem. Is it an easy fix. If I were in my shop and you bought this set in, it would be finished in a day. It being easy depends on the person, easy for me may not be easy for you, I have the equipment to fix this problem, and that is what it will take. let me explain: First I would use a schematic to show me the voltages that should be present on the picture tube socket board, for red green and blue. Then I would measure the high voltage on the anode and write it down (usually 20Kv to 30Kv) Then I would inject an known good signal into the TV (usually color bars) via the RF input on channel 3 From there I would make sure I write all of my measurements down and compare them to the schematic. At this point I would waant to make sure the picture tube could not be the culprit, I would power off the set unplug the set and then discharge the high voltage anode of the picture tube I have a tool that does this but it can be done with a big flathead screwdriver and a clip lead. Attach the cliplead to the screwdrive and then the other end of the screwdriver to ground. MAKE SURE THE SET IS POWERED OFF AND UNPLUGGED!! Manuver the flat blade of the screwdriver under the rubber cap of the anode connection on the top of the picture tube and make contact with the metallic clip (you may draw an arc so be prepared for an electrical discharge). Once you do that leave the screwdriver inplace as you remove the rubber cap and the metallic clip from the anode of the picture tube. Once this is done, remove the socket board from the back of the picture tube. At this point you will now use what is called a CRT Analyzer/Rejuvenator. Follow the setup and test instructions for the CRT Analyzer/Rejuvenator perform a tube check first and if the tube shows bad on any of the guns, perform a rejunvenation run on all threen guns, balance them and then test them again (repeat this about four times if needed), an more and you can count the picture tube as bad. If the tube is good or can be bought to a good state then reconnect the anode and socket board and reapply power. If the problem is gone then it was the tube, if not then it's the circuitry and then troubleshooting is needed, to find the problem in the video circuit. I hope this helps.
