Hi, I have a Dell Inspiron 1521 notebook. When I got it it first had Vista on it. But now I reformatted it to put windows XP on it. However, I cannot get my internet to work on windows XP. I have comcast cable, and i have a router. what I did was connect a LAN chord to the router and to my comp and no connection, with vista however it automatically picked up the connection. What can I do to get a internet connection on windows xp througha router?

Firstly, what Operating System came with you Inspiron 1521? It's either Windows XP or Windows Vista, my guess would be that it has Windows Vista (If you've not replaced the Operating System since you purchased it).
I would imagine that if it's not something simple like the volume of the mic being set to zero or muted, then it could be an issue with the drivers.
If you are running Vista, your best bet is to download the following drivers
To format your hard drive, insert the installation DVD(Vista) and go
through the options until you get to choose which partition to install Vista on
and just click the button at the bottom that says "Format".
What operating system are you running on your dell 1521 laptop? What drivers are supported on your Dell 720 printer?
If you are running Windows Vista on your laptop and there are only drivers for your printer up until Windows XP and nothing is on Dell's website for your printer in terms of drivers, then you can only try to run Windows Vista in Compatibility Mode.
If this doesn't work, then you'll need to get a new printer.
1. sound driver
2. microphone settings in volume control applet
3. tap test (tap the area around the microphone and see if eg Sound Recorder picks it up)
4. external microphone
If you get to step 4 before you get anything then your problem is one of missing or damaged microphone.
