SOURCE: no sound out of rear speakers

I don' know what type of system you have, but try to switch system to "SURROUND" mode, or "DSP" mode.

Remove power for a while and reset the amplifer, check for any error codes. If you do not have a manual please check the following link for the nearest model. Calibrate and use test tones according to the procedure mentioned in the manual and reset.
If there is no result the sub woofer amplifier is faulty , need to check within for the power supply or there can be a failure within in the driver output.

SOURCE: Speaker Imedance Matching - Sony STR DE 997 receiver with 120Watts - 8 ohms output with Benz 6 ohms..Tower Speakers

hi pawanh75,

thanks in advance for a very informative setup that you have.

Here are some of possible mods , only if you like and can DIY

( or have someone to help you )

• Using a 6 ohms impedance for an 8 ohm impedance amp clearly

denotes that it heats up the output stages.

(please forgive my very technical words)

• One way to lessen the heat is to install a blower .

Use a 220V blower on top of the receiver.

( air should be in going up direction ).

• Before I proceed further please indicate if having the speaker

connected and having a zero volume , and just letting the receiver

in an "On" state deliverately produce heat on the receiver, or just

when the volume is at medium to high level.

If it s running hot at zero level with speaker , please post.

If it is running hot even without speaker, post also

• It may also helps , if you have a powered subwoofer ( for the low's),

and set settings on your receiver to "small"

Let me know what you find to help you further.

Sorround speakers not working though connected correctly

Without knowing exactly what your problem is, perhaps you are not playing sound that was recorded in at least 5.1 format. A DVD or BluRay will indicate the format on the cover. The data is decoded and split into (for example) six discreet audio channels. Left front, Centre front, Right front, Surround Left, Surround Right and LFE (Low frequency effects) If you are playing a standard stereo audio disc, then the sound will only be heard from the front L&R speakers, which are expected to be full range speakers. You can, however choose an audio configuration that also provides a signal for the SUB (LFE) and even a pseudo surround. If you want more info I'm happy to help. Just tell me exactly what sound source you are playing and we can work it out.
Cheers for now, Don.

No sound, other monitors have a input jack for sound but not this one.

Some monitors have built-in speakers and others do not have them.
In this case you need to purchase separate external speakers to connect into your computer. If your computer has audio output for surround sound, then you can buy 5.1 surround sound speakers. These will have 2 front speakers, 2 back speakers, a center speaker and a sub-woofer speaker..

Hi there. If you are running a 5.1 speaker system, make sure your surround speakers are on the surround terminal NOT ON THE SURROUND BACK. the surround back is only for the 7.1 speaker system.

Rear Surround speakers

Best thing to do is to put the unit in 5 channel or 7 channel mode. That will send left ch information to the front left and rear left speakers ( both will get the same information). Ditto with the right channel. The center channel will get centre channel information.

If all the speakers work, go out and rent TOP GUN. ( yes its old), BUT there are a few extreme scenes , one of which is the elevator scene, where the camera changes perspective and suddenly you hear the elevator doors close BEHIND you through only the surround speakers ( have the unit in surround mode....NOT 5 or 7 ch mode ). If this works ok, then you have no problems.

Remember, surround sound only produces information in the rear channels when the information is there. To check out the digital and DTS decoders, get an action flick. If you can, get a remote too, because that will unlock many features about the receiver that you cant get to with the front panel controls. Also go to yamaha and download the owners manual ( its free !!).....that should get you going.....

best of luck...
