Question about Computers & Internet

G'Day! I have a Transcend 2 GB USB stick. Whenever I connect it to my computer or any other computer, I get this error message ''THIS USB DEVICE CAN PERFORM FASTER IF YOU CONNNECT IT TO HIGH SPEED USB 2.0 PORT. FOR A LIST OF AVAILABLE PORTS,CLICK HERE.'' Other USB Sticks and my external HDD works fine on my computer. The problem is limited to only this particular Transcend 2 GB USB stick. The same error message is displayed on all computers running Windows XP when I insert only this particular Transcend 2 GB USB stick, I have tried it on at least five other computers! Additionally, the speed of this particular Transcend 2 GB USB stick is very slow compared to USB sticks that I use on my computer and also other computers Hope you can help... Cheers!

Yes. The problem is you don't have usb 2.0 ports on your motherboard. Its the second generation usb port. So if you want to upgrade you can buy additional hardware to upgrade this. But your motherboard has to be compatible with that additional peripheral too. As an example buses of your motherboard. So you have to check that also when you purchase. This is not a problem. The only thing is it will reduce the efficiency of your pen drive (Access time etc.). Other usb sticks you have may be usb 1.1 devices.

Transcend JetFlash V60 16 GB Pen Drive not working properly

Sometimes when a flash memory stick fails because it was not removed from the USB port properly. If the device is removed by just pulling it out of the USB port, it can cause the flash device to fail, you must click on the Safely Remove Hardware icon on the Task Bar and select the device you wish to remove and only do so when instructed to do so.
When the flash memory device appears to malfunction it maybe possible to restore it by reformatting it. Insert the flash drive into the USB port then Click on Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management - Disk Management.
Then right click on Disk 1 removable drive and click Format. After the flash drive has been formatted it will indicate that its Healthy.

You need to format the external drive. Format the drive as primary drive and in FAT32.
Insert the external hard drive into the USB port then Click on Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management - Disk Management.
Then right click on Disk 1 removable drive and click Format. After the flash drive has been formatted it will indicate that its Health

You do not need any drivers in windows for these drives if you are using XP/Vista. These are generic volumes. Try deleting any mention of the driver in device manager and let windows install it automatically. This sounds a lot more that your pen drive is dead. Time for a new one. Can you borrow a friends and plug it in to test the USB port is ok?
