Make and model of the laptop? Or Dell Service Code? or HP P/N?

  • NinaE May 11, 2010

If you had Vista on your system and are now downgrading to XP, it's difficult to find drivers, since Dell does not provide. Please post your specific model and clarify.

If you have a wireless network, install a wireless card in the PCMCIA slot (you can get one for about $20) Once installed you can access the internet fto download the other drivers.
If you do not have a wireless network, go to Pannerra Bread or another resturaunt that has free WifFi

DOUBLE-click RIGHT ON the file name.

Hey i have an acer aspire 5520 and i had to put a different hard drive in now i have no internet and i think the driver might be missing. does that sound right and would a new driver download help?

You need to reinstall all drivers of your laptop since you replaced your hard disk, drivers and os are installed inside your hard disk so if you replaced it you need to reinstall all of it. If you dont have the drivers just download all drivers in the manufacturer's website look for the support page and search for your particular model.

remove one os on your computer. its will never work that way.reinstall the new os that you have with the cd. once you uninstall and reinstall the operating system you must be online wired directly to your modem. or wireless if your computer has the wireless adaoter and you have a wireless network from a router of a gateway.

My drive crashed so i installed a new hard drive, and used the disks provided to install windows xp,and drivers, but I'm noticing that the following drivers did not install, the base system device,...

Try to manually update the drivers.
Go to Settings/Control Panel/System
Hardware tab
Then Device Manager
Click on one and update.
Let the OS search the CD with the drivers.
(You may have to navigate to the correct directory)

If this fails you will have to go to the DELL website and download the drivers for your machine.

Hope this helps!
Good luck!

I've lost my wireless link since I put a new hard drive in

Did you reinstall the OS or just add a second hard drive? If the former, you'll need to reinstall the drivers for the network adapter, sound, etc.
See this driver tutorial and this install guide.
If it's a network problem, give us some details about your OS, your router, and your system and we'll be happy to help sort it out.

New Hard Drive (Missing Drivers)

You can download the drivers from Dell WEB site, the support download page. Make sure you select your model laptop, better still type in the Service Tag number, it is printed on the label on the bottom of the laptop. Also make sure you select the Windows XP or Vista version of the driver for your Windows operating system.

Can't boot my Acer Aspire One

"Booting" is the process of starting up the computer's operating system (Windows). Settings in the mainboard memory (the BIOS) give the order in which devices are searched for the operating system. The usual order is hard drive first, then the CD drive, and finally over a network.

That clear-as-mud message means the mainboard tried to boot over a network connection and it didn't work. It's telling you to check your network cable or to put in a CD it can boot from.

There are two reasons this is happening. Either the system's BIOS settings have "network" as the first boot device, or (more likely) the operating system wasn't found on the hard drive and the BIOS went looking for a network connection. If the computer used to boot normally and you didn't change the BIOS settings, then something has happened to the hard drive to make it unbootable.

You can check the BIOS settings by pressing the "DELETE" key when you turn the computer on and the Acer logo screen appears. This starts the BIOS setup mode. If the boot order is correct with network boot as the last choice, there is a hardware cause. You might have picked up a virus or worm which has corrupted the disk. The hard drive or the mainboard may have gone bad.

If you have a recovery CD or DVD set, you can try restoring your system. You say it's brand-new, so you might try taking the computer back to the retailer to see if their technical support people can help. Or you can contact Acer to set up service for the computer.

Hope this helps you understand what's happening and that you get the trouble straightened out quickly!
