Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have a HP Pavillion 7600 series PPC with a ATI Radeon X800 GTO 512 MB card. The problem is the fan noise. It seems to run on maximum constantly and is terribly annoying. I know nothing about graphics cards and I was wondering should I replace the card for a quieter one. BTW, I don't use resource-hungry applications. Is there any way I can reduce the fan speed and hence the fan motor noise. hepl would be gretaly appreciated. Thanks

Download ATITool It will allow you to adjust your fan speed. Be careful not to change any advanced settings as it may put your card out of warranty. The alternative is to buy a replacement heatsink and fan for your card.

No, a 9000 will not be enough. You'll need something from this list, and it will have to be AGP.

EA Game ''Spore'' - Videocard & Driver Issue

Well, I can solve it but it is somewhat bad news. Basically your video card is not powerful enough. Here are the ATI specs from the EA website;
  • ATI Radeon™ series
  • 9500, 9600, 9800
  • X300, X600, X700, X800, X850
  • X1300, X1600, X1800, X1900, X1950
  • 2400, 2600, 2900
  • 3450, 3650, 3850, 3870,
  • 4850

    and here are NVIDIA
  • NVIDIA GeForce series
  • FX 5900, FX 5950
  • 6200, 6500, 6600, 6800,
  • 7200, 7300, 7600, 7800, 7900, 7950
  • 8400, 8500, 8600, 8800
  • 9600, 9800, GTX 260, GTX 280
I would recommend buying a new video card. You can pick up a NVIDIA 8400 thru 8600 for about $30 or $40 from Frys.com or newegg.com sometimes cheaper with rebate.

They are fairly easy to install.

    Good Luck.

Need new card, system requirements confusing

Radeon X800 XL is a PCI-E (PCI-Express) card, you can replace it with any current ATI or nVidia video card that uses the PCI-E slot. Since you already have a PCI-E card before, I would bet you already meet most of the system requirements.

How to make use of 2 DVI outputs on Sapphire Radeon X800 GTO2 Graphics card

You need ATIs Catalyst Software to run dual monitors. Just installing the drivers is not enough. There is a bummer part of all this. Before you install the latest driver/Catalyst Crontrol Center, you will have to uninstall your current X800 software through Control Panel. If it fail to uninstall you will need to use ATIs uninstall software called: cat-uninstaller.exe. The first link below.
When you have the new CCC & driver installed you'll need to setup your dual monitors within the Catalyst Control Center. K

1 last item. Please make sure your operating system is updated. ATI wants you to have .Net framework 2.0 installed before you install the driver package.
