My CD/dvd light scribe came up missing from "my computer" section & no longer functions with any playback/burn.
The unit activates, the drawer opens & closes, but the link is broken(???), I have checked & re-checked throughout the system to no avail.

System restore did not work either. It's probably a cookie or something hiding somewhere. I'll try to see if symantec can erase it.

Try re-installing nero, but if that doesn't work then you might have some viruses and malware messing with you.
Start
your PC and press F8 several times until the boot menu comes up. Then
select "Safe Mode with Networking". Now get some or ALL of the FREE
programs below.
Download, Install and Run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware:

When Installing choose the non-pro version.
Download, Unzip, Install and Run TDSSKiller:
