Question about Philips WACS700 Shelf System

2 Answers

Not booting The system was working fine then one day i turned on and the centre remained in boot mode.I phoned philips they told me to press and hold the OK and Volume + buttons unplug and re plug power. We went through step 5 which was a Eprom reset but still no joy. I have previously tried holding the Source and Stop buttons which gives a report that the firmware is damaged and will be repaired by the back up, once again no joy. I bought it second hand working fine 2 weeks ago. Now i am stumped and out of pocket.Any help or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you avid imps. I have dismantled the wac and as you rightly stated there are numerous processors. I disconnected the ribbon cable put them back after cleaning but same problem. I will now try your second suggestion of replacement cable.

Its nice to know there are people willing to help others.Once again thank you for your tips.I will advise of any further improvements.

seems I have exactly the same problem, the unit worked fine and then after a power-down it remained in boot mode at power-up, I already tried the "push stop and source buttons at start up" and I get the message "firmware damaged a backup will be restored ..." but the system hangs with this message.

When the unit remains at the booting menu it is normally a sign that your Hard drive has failed. The hard drive in the wacs700 seems to run extremely hot, probably due to it's encaged location and poor airflow. It is possible to replace the drive yourself but it is fiddly.

You could send the unit back under warranty or get it repaired.

I charge £50 + cost of the HDD + postage to repair the fault.
No fix = no fee but you will need to pay for return postage. I only replace faulty Hard Drives and don't carry out other fault finding repairs. HDD Choices up to 300GB.

This problem is usually caused by the ribbon cable connection between the front panel and the main unit. Sometimes the problem can be cured by disconnecting both ends of the cable.

The firmware should still be ok in this case.

There are multiple processors in the WACS700 unit, and the problem occurs when they can't talk to each other.

An authorised service agent should be able to sort the problem with a replacement cable.

Further to my previous posting, I have run one of these connected to a diagnostic system.

This problem can be caused by 2 things:

1 - Failed or corrupt hard drive

Display shows "Booting" and the hard disk can be heard spinning up.

A faulty hard drive usually makes a regular clicking or clanging noise. In this case a replacement will be the only option.

A corrupt hard drive will spin up as normal. In this case it be recovered by copying from another hard drive, using proprietry hard drive copying software on a PC.

2 - Blown inductor on the hard drive power connection.

This is indicated by "Booting" on the display, and no hard disk noise or activity from the unit.

This is caused by one of the small black surface mount components failing on the hard drive power plug.

These can be removed and replaced by a single strand of wire (eg from mains flex) taking care not to touch the wire anywhere else on the board.

The inductors can be tested by a meter. Normally they should show continuity or zero resistance. have a small number of spare parts for the WACS700, however they are not listed on the site.

Contact them via the website with any queries.

Blue Screen Error driver_irql_not_less_or_equal 0xd1 Caused by xavzts.sys

You might have installed incompatible drivers. Boot the computer into "Safe Mode" by pressing and holding down the F8 right after pressing the power button to turn PC on. Select "Safe Mode" in the Windows Advanced Boot Options". Icons might look bigger or the screen will look different in Safe Mode. Click Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore. Use System Restore to restore the computer back to a date when the computer is working fine. The computer will restart during the process.

Hope this help. Goodluck!

I have a pc that has a virus. i cannot get into my control panel and it wont install programs. how do i repair this manually

First try to install MBAM (malware bytes anti-malware) in safe mode (press f8 while the computer is booting) Boot in Safe Mode with Networking.
If that doesn't work, the easiest way would be format the hard drive with the windows disc that came with the computer. That is the best way to ensure the problem is gone. All your information will be deleted, so you will want to copy things you need or want to an external hard drive or burn them to a CD.

Since i ve download flash player 10 its says that my ATI drivers arn t good ??? my computer become all pixel and keep on rebooting by itself..

Turn off the machine, now turn On again and keep pressing F8 (don't hold down, just keep tapping) while it boots up, when you see the black screen with white texts, use the arrow up and down key and select "Safe Mode" by pressing "Enter". It'll boot into Safe Mode, from there, try reinstalling the Graphics drive (your ATI Graphics Card driver), and reboot the system normally. It'll work fine. If you can install the drivers from the Normal Boot (boot up without pressing anything), then it's better. Try your best. If there's no other hardware or software conflict, your problem will be fixed.

You can also try uninstall and reinstall the Adobe Flash Player.

Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

When i turn on phone after android logo appears screen turns blank and phone will not turn off you have to take battery out

Try getting into recovery mode. Hold down home and press power. Keep holding home down while the phone boots. Can you get into recovery mode? You can just pull the battery after testing this.

You can also try holding "menu" while booting. This should put you in "safe" mode. If this works, then use the settings menu to do a factory reset and reboot.

My computer starts to boot then once it is completed the a message comes up saying there is an error and then a blue screen comes up and reboots itself. THis continues and does not stop

When starting up, press the F8 key to catch the Boot Menu. Select the option to disable automatic restart on system failure. Boot and when it fails the Blue Screen will remain for you. Look near the top and see what file has been identified as the failure i.e. NV4_disp.dll. (Google the file name to see what program or hardware the failed file is associated with) Press and Hold the power button to shut down. Turn the computer back on and press the F8 key again to catch the Boot menu, and select Safe mode. If allowed into Safe Mode, try to go into Device Manager and either disable the failing device, or remove the associated program. If this doesn't work you can try to do a system restore to a date before this error started to appear. If you post back the file causing the blue screen, I can instruct you further.

Booting up

Probably corrupt firmware. You can re-load the backup and restore the system.
Press and hold the SOURCE and STOP buttons whilst plugging into the mains supply.

Continue to hold until recovery option appears.

If this doesn't work, then the backup firmware is corrupt too.
