Question about Canon PIXMA® MP460 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Open Question

Hey I have a canon mp460 scanner/printer....i'm running vista 32 home. The problem is that i press the scan button on the printer/scanner and then i select the save to pc option on the scanner. next i press the color button and there is a box that appears on the pc monitor screen that asks the user to "select a program to launch this action"...the problem being that there are no programs there for me choose from and there is, it seems, no obvious way to be able to go about selecting a program like paint or word etc. to save my scan as a certain format. I also tried to set the scanners and camera options in the control panel...under the events tab of the scanner properties....this was set to take no action but i cannot choose any of the other options there. i.e. "start this program" & "prompt for which program to run"....they are greyed out. I hope that there is someone there to help me with this issue :) thnx

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

SOURCE: Scanner will not scan to certain programs

Try reinstallying the printer driver, but first remove the printer program.  Then, reinstall everything and try it again.  Unplug and plug the printer in.

SOURCE: Scanner not working on Canon MP 210

As for the drivers, go to the following link and then click on the "Drivers and Downloads" tab, then choose your operating system. It should then give you the drivers under the "Driver" heading right below the operating system drop-down box. The software is there as well.

SOURCE: Canon Pixma MX850 won't scan - says 'set the pc to start scan'

Do you have more than one PC connected to the scanner? I have both a PC and a Mac connected to it, and I think my scanner is trying to connect to the Mac, which requires image capture software to be installed, rather than the PC. Don't know how to tell it to go to the PC, though...

How do I scan a document?

Do you have the full software installed or just the basic driver from Canon? What OS are you using? http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/pixma_mp_series/pixma_mp240#DriversAndSoftware has the software and drivers. If you installed the OS driver, you should uninstall that, disconnect the data cable and then install the driver from Canon. The generic OS driver usually only runs the printer.

Place the document face down on the scanner glass or face up if you have an ADF. Check that the all-in-one and the computer have good bi-directional communication. (Direct USB connection (if you are using that), replace cables if the printer works but not the scanner and the Canon software is installed.)

If you are using the Canon software, you need to set up the destinations for the buttons and have the monitoring software running. Thus start scanning from the computer at first. Launch MP Navigator and then click on the type of document you want to scan. Find the resolution and contrast that works for you. Use these in setting the button defaults (see the manual from Canon). Then click Scan.

Alternately, with Windows XP, Vista and Win7, you can scan with software that came with the OS. Paint is available on all of these OS versions (File > Import from camera scanner > from scanner). Vista includes PhotoGallery which works like Paint (this can be downloaded for XP and Win7). Vista and Win7 also can scan with Windows Fax and Scan (New Scan).

When you have the MP Navigator properly set up, you will be able to launch a scan from the printer. Press the Scan button and the software will launch.

I hope this helps.

Won't scan

I had this problem, but I have Windows Vista. Epson finally addressed this problem. If you have Vista - and you cannot scan with the Canon MP460...just go to Epson's website, and go to troubleshooting. There you will find an upgrade that is necessary - it's the 'Service Pack 1'. Download it to your computer...and you will be able to scan immediately.

Canoscan toolbox has stopped working

Vista is the laughing stock of IT pros everywhere.  Vista is truly the bastard child of Bill Gates.  Go on Canon web site and look for updated drivers to run on Vista or downgrade back to XP, which is more user friendly with peripherals.

Scanner

are you pressing ok on the printer? all of your scanning should be done via the MP460 navigator. check your applications under the Canon Utlitiy and click on the MP460 Navigator button. scanning needs to be done via that - not the actual printer. refer to the dialogue box when you are on the MP460 navigator. lower left area has a Save bar, when you click on it tow options: save to PC or save as PDF.
