Removing pulleys from 42 inch Craftsman mower deck

I ran over some deer netting and it wrapped extremely tight around one of the mower blades and pully assembly. I removed the deck, removed the blade and tried cutting and used a propane torch to melt the netting entwined around the shaft but the shaft still does not turn easily. I am trying to remove the entire puuly assembly from the deck but cannot get the pully detached from the blade assembly. Any suggestion as to how to get this done. I believe if I can disassemble this and get whatever netting is still around the shaft, and then grease the shaft I should be OK.

Put the blade back on the star on the shaft and tighten it down. Now you have some backup for the pulley nut. You may have to wedge a 2x4 between the blade and deck. THe EASIEST way is get an impact and zip it off. :-)

Your torch torched the plastic races in the bearings. Get a new spindle, they're maybe 30 bucks on eBay. You probably cooked the pulley bearings as well as the spindle bearings. Just get a new set, it beats taking it to a shop or buying a new mower.

How do I remove nuts to replace deck pulleys?

Pully shaft runs through deck to blade spindles. Wear floves amd wrap heavy rag around blade and hold tight whist undoing pulley nuts. Another option is to place a oil filter strap wrench around pulley grooves and tighyen to achieve leverage. Happy fixing.

Model # 917257620 need a diagram on how to put the deck belt on!!!

From the lower motor pulley moving back to inbetween the two smaller inside forward pulleys, around the back of the pulleys and out to the front of the larger blade pulleys. Around the blade pulleys to the back and across the back of the deck to the other pulley.

It is easier to visualize it that way, but putting it on start with wrapping it around the blade pulleys and then go to the back side of the smaller idler and tension pulleys and then inbetween them to the motor pulley.

Let me know how it goes, but that should get you going.

42 deck craftsman riding mower. how do you get blades off? md 91721880.

On most riding lawnmowers, you can remove the blades reaching underneath the deck while the deck is set to its highest position. This may not be possible on lawnmowers with three blades; however, most 42 inch mowers have two blades.

The blades are usually held on with either one or two bolts (on each blade). Oftentimes, too, there is a lock washer underneath the bolt.

If you have auto ramps, it might help to push the front end of the mower up on the ramps. This can give you more room to access the blade bolts.

If the blades have not been removed before, those bolts can be on really tight. You might need to use some kind of breaker bar on your wrench to give you more leverage.

Craftsman 42 inch cutting deck riding lawn mower. I can not get the mower to to ingage. The belt appears to be tight and has not follen off the pulley.

Some of the 42 inch Craftsman mowers Have a cable that goes from the blade leaver to the deck some have a linkage if it has the cable check it to see if it has broken. Find where it connects to the deck pully and pull on the cable wire not the cable cover and see if if comes out also make sure it is connected to the top of the idler pully. If it has a linkage there is a clip that holdes that linkage to the deck it most likely came off.

I need to put a blade belt back on my Craftsman yard tractor

If you disengage the Blades like you normally would, this will give you plenty of slack in the belt to put back on. There should be a pulley or lever that tensions the belt when it is engaged and that is what is causing it to be too tight to put back on. Hope this helps
