My dishwasher is about 4 years old now and this past week it started to blink 8 short pause 1 short long pause, repeat. It seems like the smart wash stops part way through because the soap is not completely dissolved. It is normal dishwasher soap. There are no excessive suds. I have tried pressing normal, heat, normal, heat until the lights turn on. I have let it run after that and pressed cancel. The floater moves up and down easily. There is no leakage anywhere that I can see. When I turn on the wash the heater gets too hot to touch. I'm not sure where to go from here troubleshooting wise. There is clearly a problem as it won't finish the cycle. It did appear to finish a rinse and also a normal wash. It drains completely. Any help would be so greatly appreciated!
Most likely a problem with the temperature sensing that lets the dishwasher heater run without turning off. Not sure why the thermal fuse does not cut in to protect the heater.

about the only thing to try would be to remove the inner door panel to get to the control bd then you will see a mylar ribbon looks like a fat piece of scotch tape pull up on the plastic connector that holds it in and pull the ribbon out then get a clean pencil eraser and gently clean the ribbon and put it back in dont forget to push the locking tab back down then try it again and let me know

I just read this for the same problem: push sanitize, then heat and dry, sanitize, heat and dry, sanitize, heat and dry, cancel, then open and close the door. It worked. The dishwasher is running correctly even as I type this.

I suspect for either of these units that the timer control boards are bad.
