Question about Onkyo TX-SR606 Receiver
I attempted to connect my TXSR606 receiver to my pc in order to listen to pandora and my itunes library. I used the green out on the back of my pc (where my computer speakers were plugged in). Basically a mini headphone jack to red and white rca cables. I plugged the rca cables into the tape "in". The receiver smoked and then sparked before I yanked out the rca cables. Now the receiver will only stay on for a few seconds before it shuts off. I've talked to several people who have their receivers hooked up to their pc's exactly in this fashion without any problem. HELP. Any ideas?
I am not used to count colors or numbers on wires, but what you did is that you created an oscillator, by hooking up the output of the receiver and ran it through your computer which inverted the phase, so the thing oscillated and committed suicide. Onkyo used to make some good impact printers, before the modern inkjet came around. If your unit is within warranty, don't hesitate to go where you bought it and ask them to re-imburse you. Receivers don't blow up just like that, because someone hook a wire wrong. One of the specifications is to check just that: phase reversal and oscillations...
