I use a black molybdenum disulfide grease to lubricate the flex shafts. I remove the shaft, wipe off all of the old grease, apply a new coat of grease, and reverse the direction of the shaft when re-installing (top becomes bottom, bottom becomes top) to more evenly distribute the wear on the flex shaft.

White lithium grease works well
get it in a spray can and spray it in the tube where the flex shaft goes and then coat the flex shaft and reinstall

Mine's a bent shaft. I guess only Victa agents can replace/repair the centrifugal clutch or internal broken cable?

not necessarily--- the broken drive cable can be removed /replaced by removing the trimmer head from the shaft at the bottom
undo the clamp and if there is a small screw/ bolt into the shaft undo that as well and pull the head off
the flexible drive cable will slip out
check the ends and they should be square in form
Mostly the cable breaks but occasionally that square section will wear round
slip in a new cable and reassemble

Stihl fs 55r head won't turn

Check drive shaft. Some models have a flexible cable drive shaft that is prone to breaking. also make sure the drive shaft is engaged in the clutch drum and in the gear head end.

Internal metal cable from flexible shaft is broken 54-4770-4

hello,,There are only three things to cause trimmer head not to turn.
1.Outer shaft has sliped down from engine because screw has fallen out and ring has come loose,
2.Shaft has broken due to excess stress, such as putting on a differant trimmer head or binding up,
3.Trimmer head striped.
hope this helps, any comments welcome, thank you.

Shaft needs to come out the top, will have to split the case or remove motor from shaft to pull cable out

I have a Talon electric line trimmer AT2307A. When I press the start button, the bottom attachment with the nylon line does not spin even though the motor is running.

Halfway down the shaft of the line trimmer, you can detach the line trimmer attachment ( this in so you can fit a lawn edger attachment if need be). Unclip the line trimmer at that halfway point and the start the motor and see if that rod inside the shaft is spining, if so, reattach the line trimmer attachment and see if the nylon line spins, if so, it wasnt attached correctly, if not, then there a break in the flexible rod going to the trimmer head, most likely at the bend.

I strip the cable inside my lawn trimmer it would turn my cutter below. Is this something I can repair or must I take it to shop?

Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly. When you say you stripped the cable I am assuming that your talking about the flexible drive shaft. This can be replaced at home. However,.... ou did not state if this was a gas or electric model. At the moment I am assuming it is a 25cc Gas trimmer. To replace the flexible drive shaft the motor will have to be unmounted from the drive shaft housing. It will have 4 flat sides on each end that must mate correctly into the slots of the motor and the power head or you will not be able to re-mount the engine.

With a good model number I can provide you with a source of the replacment parts and probably what mounting hardware that has to be removed to change the fl;exible drive shaft.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Our B&D electric trimmer is now noise maker

Yes you should be able to repair it. Is it a flex or shaft drive? If it'a a shaft, it is the coupler at the motor. If it is a flexible drive the cable may be broken. B&D is is seldom worth repairing. The majority of lawnmower shops won't repair them because of cost. You can try, but you need the owners paperwork to order the right parts. Good luck and at the least, tear it down and see what failed. Start at the string end.. Good luck and make sure it's not plugged in. - Ned -

remove the head from the shaft( tube) and remove the broken drive cable
get and fit new cable and then reattach the head to the shaft ( tube )
the gears in the head are fairly robust but the drive is a cable which twists up and pulls out of the drive squares at either end
