Hi,
Replace that diode with EPG20 part number 871997985
It is available in Part Store.
Reason of damage could be over current flow in diode and you need to follow its supplied voltage section that might have some other part shorted there.
Thanks.

I was given a Soyo monitor, model; DYLM1988, that starts but only stays on for a few seconds. What are some possible problems and what could I try to fix it?

This is typical with many sets when it goes old as there is a high possibility that the components over a period of heating and cooling , tend to bring on a problem of dry soldering. So my advice is to check the set for some loose joints that have played on to give you these erratic shut downs.

Remove main plug, the covers - with caution of high voltage, check for dry joints, use a good soldering iron to solder all suspected points. Please find below two links for tips on poor start ups, as if the set is totally failed the SMPS might be faulty

medproducts, Nothing new here. Check internal "switch-mode-power-supply board" only after devoting about 1-2 hours of viewing "lcd monitor disassembly" and "lcd monitor repair" video clips at YOUTUBE!!! Thank you for answering those questions. That usually indicates it has a bad power inverter. From what i can tell, that monitor is a few years old. You can attempt to find an inverter online to replace it yourself (usually about $50 if you can find one) since its no longer covered under warranty, or put that money into getting a new monitor.

If it uses AC adapter, then check the DC voltage at the DC plug to see if you get any voltage, if it use Direct power cord then it may have blown fuse inside the monitor, then you will need to open up the monitor.
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

My Soyo 19" widescreen monitor suddenly went all white. Powering off for a few hours does not help, it only glows white. Any suggestions?

It glows white because the LCD controller (part of the LCD panel) is not getting the 5vdc from the logic board or the LCD controller board has blown fuse due to short circuits, see what LCD controller looks like here: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/LCD%20panel/
First thing to look for is to see if the ribbon cables on both ends are in place and have clean contacts.

Weird characters on monitor, cannot log-in

Well, either the monitor is messed up and trying to display a message like "No Signal" or the monitor is set for a different language.

What happens when you press the menu button on the monitor? Change you make changes?
