Try to reinstall your audio driver that supports Vista Operating system. Check also your volume control maybe you put in mute mode.

HP LAPTOP SUDDENLY NO SOUND

Go to Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, Sound, Manage Audio Devices - check that you indeed have an audio device installed (sometimes they disappear!). If not, go to HP.com and go to Support. Enter the information for your computer to find the device driver for YOUR computer and OS (operating system) and download and reinstall the proper driver to hopefully solve the situation.

The sound icon on my HP laptop disappeared

If the sound is muted go into the Volume control and uncheck the Mute box.
If this does not work then reinstall the audio driver.
You can download the audio and device drivers from the Compaq/HP WEB support/download page. Make sure you select your model laptop and the Windows drivers you require and install them. Click on this link to download the drivers: -

Dell Studio 17 windows 7/ Sound disappeared completely.

The best thing to do would be a system restore. You might have installed some software or changed some settings which made the sound disappear.

Click on Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore and follow the on screen instructions.
